Eagles DT Patterson collapses at camp

AP – 12 mins ago

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson has been taken to a hospital after collapsing at a training camp practice at Lehigh University.

Patterson dropped to the ground between plays during practice Wednesday morning, and the player began violently shaking. He was immediately tended to by trainer Rick Burkholder and his staff, with assistance from rookie offensive lineman Danny Watkins, a trained firefighter.

As players kneeled nearby, holding hands and praying, an ambulance arrived and Patterson was placed on a stretcher and lifted into the ambulance.

The team had no immediate comment on Patterson's condition. Patterson, 28, was the Eagles' first-round pick out of USC in 2005. He's started 84 games and played in 95, the most of anybody on the current roster.

Practice resumed after about 15 minutes.

If he doesn't have a fan base in Philly yet, he most certainly will now. Philly loves there firemen.

Mike Patterson is being treated for dehydration, a source tells beat writer Les Bowen.

It sounds like we can exhale. Patterson broke into a seizure for four minutes at Wednesday morning's practice, lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital via an ambulance. But ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio is reporting that the defensive tackle is already sending text messages from the hospital saying that he is fine. Patterson will remain hospitalized as he undergoes tests.

Good vibes sent in the hopes his condition isn't life threatening.

Eagles DT Patterson has brain condition

BETHLEHEM (AP) — Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder says defensive tackle Mike Patterson has a brain condition and may require surgery. Burkholder said Thursday morning that Patterson is undergoing further tests.

The 28-year-old Patterson was hospitalized after suffering a seizure Wednesday morning at training camp at Lehigh University. The 6-foot-1, 300-pound Patterson has been diagnosed with arteriovenous malformation (AVM), which is the tangling of blood vessels near the skull.

On Wednesday, Patterson dropped to the ground between plays during a morning practice and began violently shaking. He was immediately tended to by Burkholder and his staff, with assistance from rookie Danny Watkins, a trained firefighter, and taken by ambulance to a hospital.

major props to the Eagles medical staff and Danny Watkins (first round pick and trained firefighter) who took control of the situation immediately and got Patterson to the hospital in minutes - I suspect he will probably miss this season - but with the right treatment - I can't see his career being over
