Fatman
Some friends are starting up a new league and there is debate about whether or not it should be an auction. I'd like to send them some simple paramaters around a 12 man league that will likely keep two players from year to year.
Old Money
If you're doing an auction keeper league, the best way is for the keeper to get a certain number of dollars added to his auction price from last year. After a few years, he prices himself out of being a keeper. $7 or $8 per year could work. Depends on how fast you want to throw the keepers back in the draft pool. Example: $200 auction budget. Mike Wallace bought last year $15, this year to keep him $22, next year $29. After awhile he prices himself out of being kept and you throw him back in the draft pool. Thats if you want it to be a penalty to keep players. If its just keep 2 without penalty, then the draft is run as a regular auction draft without 24 players.
