Knowshon Moreno Thoughts

Have the opportunity to keep him for 4.10 in a 12 team draft. I've read he's shown up looking great in camp, finally healthy.

Anyone think he'll exceed expectations this year with Fox and Orton? Is he fragile or unlucky?

Thanks.

McGahee has been talked up quite a bit on local radio. He looked good in the one preseason game, and looked better than Moreno in the one practice I went to. Likely will get most of the limited red zone touches the team will get

I think if Moreno stays healthy, production will be similar between the 2, but you can get McGahee a lot later.

Agree with Brent, I would hesitate to take Moreno in the late 4th.

One thing that seems to be overlooked is how McGahee fits into the future of the franchise. Moreno is 24 and McGahee is 29 and on his 3rd team, and hasn't been a starter in several years. At best, McGahee's a change of pace/goal line back at this point in his career. He's not a guy you can start every week, and in my own personal opinion, isn't even draftable. His value would increase if Moreno got hurt and missed some games. I understand that the DEN RB coach was McGahee's RB coach in BUFF, but still, you can't think that McGahee isn't more than a guy to provide competition and goal-line work. Just my 2 cents. It's Moreno's job to lose.

I think you are completely mischaracterizing this. McGahee hasn't been starting because he was sitting behind Ray Rice. With BUF McGahee was capable of 280 or more carries, but with BAL he got significantly less work due to Rice, down to about 100 carries the past 2 years. That means he doesn't have hte mileage that a lot of other 29 yr old RBs do.

McGahee does something that Fox loves and that Moreno is completely ineffective at: running between the tackles. Fox believes in using the meat of his O-line and attacking the middle of the D. Moreno is notorious for wanting to immediately bounce everything outside, and he does not run well OT to OT. I'd go as far as saying Moreno is a terrible power runner.

That means that McGahee is the guy who has the skill set, ability, and makeup that is condusive to the new DEN O. Moreno on the other hand does not. McGahee has looked good so far and was looking great carrying the ball with the 1st team vs DAL last week, and yesterday in practice was taking all the 1st team short yardage and goal line carries. I think Fox is going to settle on McGahee as his RB1 and use Moreno for what he is worth - a CoP RB.

McGahee is the steal in FF drafts this season, and Moreno is going to do what he always does - disappoint his FF owners.

I agree. Moreno hasn't done mush to solidify his role as lead back. The only thing he has solidified is his advertising dollars for Band Aid brand. Denver needs a solid back that is able to get between the tackles and get those needed yards.

I've read that Morenos new role will be that of a Reggie Bush and I agree with the article I read. His role will be deminished but will still have some value in a PPR style league.

I'd like McGahee a whole bunch more if DEN traded Tebow... who'll take half of McGahee's goal line touches. DEN has plans to use Tebow, get him a little experience and improve on our sub-par red zone results.

A guy like McGahee is going to do nothing but benefit from having a young QB like Tebow under center. Yeah, he may lose some goal line opportunities, but he'll benefit from the additional work he'll get as Fox tries to keep Tebow in manageable down & distance scenarios and a more conservative run-oriented O.

I'd take that trade off any day.

I actually think Tebow hurts Moreno more than McGahee. McGahee value increase no matter what, IMHO. He might not breach top 10, but he defantely gets more work than when he was in Baltimore.

I have no ****** clue what's going to shake out in Denver. It's not that I don't think they can potentially have a decent fantasy option or two, but there's so much cloudiness that I wouldn't go out of my way to draft any of them.

As it stands...without seeing the rest of your roster, a late 4th round pick for Moreno doesn't seem excessive. But again, you might have better, safer options to keep.

you say that like it'll happen often. How many plays do you think that Tebow will get?

I think it's 5-7, all red zone, and mostly Tebow keeping the ball to himself or shot-putting it over the line to a Lloyd jumpball.

I think Tebow is going to be starting the second half of the season - as soon as Orton loses enough games.

It might not be a perfect comparison, but think of how Fox used his RBs in Carolina. The guy seems to believe in RBBC. So in a way, I think about how far apart the "starter" DeAngelo should be drafted as compared to the "backup" Stewart. And I think the backup is usually the better value. considering the split. Do I think it'll be an even split? Not really - I can see Knowshon getting more of the 3rd down work and maybe the between the 20s work. But maybe it's just a rotation. But McGahee seems a LOT more likely to get red zone touches, and when you look at his ADP vs. Moreno's, I think McGahee has the potential of being THE value pick of the draft. I don't see Fox putting in gimmick Tebow plays on the goalline like McDaniels did either, making the goalline back role that much more valuable.
