I had season tickets to the niners for 3 years. Every year, the niners have a preseason game against the Raiders. Every one of these preseason games was a nightmare to attend because of all the drunken brawls and near riots.

I'm really surprised that more people haven't been shot over the years because the tension runs pretty high every single one of those games.

Try going to a Charger/Raider game.

The parking lot and stands are like a battle zone with liquored-up fans going at each other. I sell my tickets to that game every year.

I think the 49er fans are becoming more Oaklandish by the hour. Can't go to any sport with a beat down.

Brian Stow is a SF Giants fan who was beaten by dumbass LA Dodger fans.

The two people shot are SF Niner fans shot by a Oakland Raiders fan.

Please read the stories before making outlandish statements like that.

In Europe, its called "hooliganism"....except that since guns are hard to come by, they just beat the poop out of each other.

Kinda makes you yearn for the days of simple battery-throwing and booing fictional holiday characters

Bet you the two guys who were shot are out of the hospital more quickly than the Giants fan who was beaten hooligan style.

Why should the players have all the fun with violent crimes? Pillars of society like Vick and "Ray Ray" would be proud proud.

PS to those about to have a hissy: I am not making light of these crimes. Any innocent person being shot is horrible of course. Just saying it's another example IMO of how in the sewer the NFL has slowly but surely gone over the years IMO - players and fans alike. In fact, given the growing number of knuckle-draggers that attend games and the silly price of tickets, I'm amazed anyone attends em.

The NFL has always had thugs and criminals in the league. Today's media just exposes it quicker.

Booze crackdown coming to 49ers games as annual Raiders grudge matches canceled

Spurred by an uprising of violence over the weekend, the 49ers and Raiders on Monday sacked future installments of their annual exhibition game as officials pledged to crack down on drunk and unruly fans at Candlestick Park, limit tailgating and stop alcohol sales late in games.

49ers CEO Jed York said Monday the team would ask the NFL, which schedules preseason exhibitions, to indefinitely postpone the annual preseason game with the Raiders, known as the "Battle of the Bay."

Standing alongside York, San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr promised DUI checkpoints outside the 49ers stadium after every home game this year. The team will also stop selling alcohol in the 4th quarter, possibly earlier if the crowd is getting unruly, said Jim Mercurio, who is charge of stadium operations and security at Candlestick.

Team officials promised more police in the parking lot and stadium during games and said vehicles will not be allowed into the parking lot or on local streets for tailgating until four hours before kickoff. The team will also ban tailgating during and after games -- a tactic adopted from other NFL teams.

Mayor Ed Lee pledged a "focus on alcohol management" during games and called on season ticket holders to be more responsible when selling individual game tickets online.

When I lived there in the mid 80's, they didn't just beat the poop out of each other, they used broken bottles and knives that were embedded in the tips of thier dock martins.

I won't bring my daughters to a football game. Normally get soaked by beer, fights breakout and the cussing is just ridiculous. It's funny the difference from a baseball game to a football game. Night and day.

Granted, I personally love going to football games. That's part of the ora of going, IMHO. It's just not meant for children.
