What's too early in ppr...?

In all seriousness....In ppr leagues...most concern for people is trying to get a quality TE to help with ppr.....Yes, I agree, the list proves to be quite long this year...however, if you post one of the 6 -28....meaning not a top 5.....Witten, Clark? possibly, Finley....Gates or Davis...(Maybe)...I think the drop off is very big....

What's everyone's opinions as too early to snag Witten or Gates, or any of the top 5....Remember, they basically perform as a WR....Correct? Or atleast that's what I've been told...and there are way more WRs so get a great TE...?

Thanks..

It depends too much on your scoring system and starting lineup requirements to make a blanket statement about TEs.

ETA - In standard PPR with one TE required, I have no issue reaching anywhere in the early fourth to early sixth for any of the top five.

12 team league- mid to late 3rd BUT I have done this and you need a lot of luck at the position you pass on to take the TE. 4th or 5th is a better call but at that point, its not a reach.

This assumes 1 PPR ofr all positions and 3 WR, 2 Rb and possibly a flex required. The less starting positions you need the easier it is to do

TEs are a bit unique in FF, since the top TEs in TE required leagues usually have pretty good value - low 1st round/high 2nd round for the top TE - but their ADPs sit in the 4th round or lower. That's because the top TEs score a lot more than the average TE12 give or take, meaning if you grab a TE you'll get a significant scoring edge over most opponents at that position. However, due to ingrained FFers perception, they are convinced that the top 12 + RBs, the top 12 + WRs, and the top 6 +/- QBs should be coming off the board well before the top TE does.

Savvy FFers understand this advantage and use it. They know they can get some substantial scoring margin for the best TEs, but they also know that in typical leagues that the top TEs won't start going off the board until the 4th round or so. To use this advantage, make sure to be one of the owners targeting one of the top 2-3 TEs no later than round 4, maybe even in the 3rd round if you're near the 3/4 turn and you want to lock up the guy you consider the top TE.

Remember: draft not by how many points your players score in FF, instead draft by how many points your players outscore your opponent's players.

Witten will have 90 catches, more than Dez or Miles. 900 yards and 6+ TDs And honestly, I see upside on the 6 TDs. In a very crowed offense, Witten is Romo's most trusted WR

I definitely see a dip in Witten's production with Romo having two stud WRs to throw to. Romo likes to throw the ball down the field, but hasn't really had any credible WR2, much less a blossoming stud WR2.

+1 Great post

I agree with Bronco Bill....If you are around the top 5 picks in the first round....on the way back up in the 3rd round...you should snag Witten or Gates or Clark....possibly....if you can....you wait on the way back and I think you may get a lesser TE by 30 points overall or even more...
