delusions of grandeur
You always hear how “deep” this class is, but as Rateree pointed out in the Graham thread: “Vernon Davis has serious quarterback questions. Dallas Clark is getting old and has a busted up wing, and a busted up QB. Kellen Winslow is Kellen Winslow. And even my man Gates is a huge health gamble”… He and many others like Graham, but as for the TE pool in general, “deep” might be a nice way of saying a whole bunch of good guys with potential, but not many standouts (at least not obvious ones). That brings us to the man of the thread. The beast himself, who just might be Aaron Rodgers #1 target a la Gates… BTW, people are still taking Gates over Finley because they “aren’t sold yet” that he hasn’t played a full season, but yet he’s young, 100% recovered and shown nothing but beastliness when he has been in, whereas Gates has a lingering injury that he will be dealing with the entire year, if not aggravating at any time… Finley also has youth on his side to give him a much better chance of shaking the injury tag… Maybe you could go for a Witten as a safer choice, though even he’s getting older with plenty of viable targets there.... So I just can't pass up that tremendous upside in a high-powered offense that doesn't come along often at TE.... I’m all-aboard the Finely train, your future #1 TE in the NFL. Lead us Jermichael to the fantasy promise land! Edited September 1, 2011 by delusions of granduer
Avernus
Witten and Finley are the top 2 TE's imo...Celek should move up this year as well and if he gets hurt the guy who steps in will produce as well... there are a slew of upside TE's but only two are in my 1st tier with Gates teetering.... The 13ers
Finely's fine. Just precautionary. Same thing with Rodgers. If you draft Finely, make sure you have a BU. He's awesome, but so fragile. He looks more muscular this year and he's doing well in games so far. He is playing right where he left off. Someone drafted him in the 3rd in my league, but I drafted with a bunch of homers. Gates and WItten went in the fourth.
i_am_the_swammi
meh....while he will be solid this year, there is a ton of TE depth...Gates, Witten, Finley, Clark, Graham, Daniels, Davis, Gronk, Winslow....I'm not sure who will be the #1 TE at the end of the year...but it could be one of any of those guys. I'll let someone else overpay for the top-3 TEs....their value in relation to the other solid players is not that big, and I'd rather get my WR2 or RB3 than overpay for a perceived stud TE. JoJoTheWebToedBoy
Stepped in front of that train early last year...... Think I will stay off the tracks this year
Caveman_Nick
I am on the hype train.....but I went with Witten in my local because he is safer and because we give 1 PPR to TEs only. I think that in PPR Witten will be the top scoring TE.

bushwacked
On was on the "#1 TE" hype train last year and it didn't work out to well. 14 games played 13 games played 5 games played That's not a very good trend for a guy typically going top 3 in his position. The leagues I play in are generally too competitive to invest highly in Finley and then invest in a capable backup shortly thereafter. Couldn't have said it better myself. There's just too much talent at TE nowadays for me to invest a top 4 round pick. I'll be just fine grabbing Greg Olson and Jermaine Gresham late. buddahj
I'm pretty high on Finley this year. Unfortunately, I've been unable to get him in any of my redrafts. I have one more draft on Saturday to try and get him. :fingerscrossed: Edited September 1, 2011 by buddahj

delusions of grandeur
...and Green Bay doesn't have plenty of viable targets?I wonder what team has the most players on offense drafted from it? Sorry, maybe I should have said #1 caliber targets.. Dallas has 3 of those, whereas Green Bay has great depth, but not true #1 targets like Jennings and Finley, and Jennings isn't a possession guy anyway... But more that, it was Rodgers who publicly hyped the guy in the past year and appears to frequently look for him first when he's making his reads. Big John
Error in Packers depth chart? To quote Emily Lutella: nevermind They fixed it now. They had Finley listed as the 4th string TE. Edited September 7, 2011 by Big John
Sturphy
Well, my fingers are crossed for him. Fo sho. Not just as a Packers fan, but as a new dynasty owner (howdy PON). Thought his upside was worth the risk. Bear in mind this is a contact year for him and there is some young talent behind him, although with less potential for dominance in the passing game. DJ Williams has to be considered here, despite all the pundits considering him an H-Back. Even Quarless, with a little more time to develop. I'm just saying it's possible he sees his replacements. There have been rumblings about an extension, but nothing yet, and they just extended Sitton. So how fired up is Finley that he wasn't extended first? Does it become a distraction during the season? Maybe he knows they want to see him perform and be healthy again before an offer is extended. Rodgers called out guys that were injured last year but that didn't hang with the team during the season, and Finley was one of them. It seemed to be aimed at Finley and Barnett with both guys getting noisy about it on Twitter. So, Finley comes across as a bit immature and has a rep as a head case. I don't have all the links to this, but they're out there. Anyway, I'm on the hype train this season and I think he's motivated. He sure sounds it when you hear him talk. Whether he can avoid injury and get fully integrated back into the offense in a top 5 fantasy kind of way remains to be seen. The Packers have been using extreme caution with him in practice and games, but it's time to turn him loose. Looking forward to Thursday night! themiraclejones
Finley hasnt proven anything. I dont ge this hype on him year after year at all. Finley was out almost all year last year, and he's already having problems with his ankles this year. I have no idea why he's going as high as guys who prove themselves year in and year out. He's like the great TE hope. I'd rather wait until the 12th round and draft Kendricks.
