Crazysight
Thought about picking him up and playing him this week, although this is the last thing I'd read about him: (Rotoworld) The Packers are easing second-year SS Morgan Burnett into camp after his rookie season ended with a torn left ACL. Analysis: The best news is that Burnett is practicing at all after reconstructive knee surgery. The Packers remain high on Burnett long term, but he's no lock to earn back his starting job before Week 1. Charlie Peprah is the interim starter. Well he scored 10.5 points last night, while Peprah had a grand total of 0, zip, nada, zilch. I've picked him up since, though wish I had him in there last night. Burnett will be inconsistent at best this year...Dom Capers scheme has never been all the friendly to the safeties. Also, you should understand that the Saints put the ball in the air 49 times and completed 32 of those passes...add to it that PFF shows that Burnett played 74 snaps, he played the run 19 times, rushed the QB 1 time and was in coverage for 54 snaps....next will see how he plays against a team with a balanced or run heavy offense...my guess is that it will be much of the same and that will make him an inconsistent fantasy play edit: no other player played in coverage as much as Burnett did yesterday Edited September 9, 2011 by keggerz
Crazysight
Well I don't know about that. He is listed at strong safety, and Peprah, the interim, didn't record a single point. Playing the run 19 times against a team that only ran the ball 21 times total to begin with isn't a bad ratio, either. Beyond that, how many "run heavy" offenses do you foresee Green Bay playing against? With the way they put points on the board, even the most run oriented teams can be expected to find themselves in a position where they'll have to pass to try and keep up with the explosive Green Bay offense. I guess we'll see, but he was a second round pick of GB a couple years ago so they obviously think highly of him, and coming off the ACL injury he had I was surprised to simply see him play the whole game the way he did, let alone put up solid IDP points. We will have to agree to disagree then. I say that Burnett will at best finish ranked around #40 as a DB4....I just don't see any more upside than that. and I know that he is the starting SS, my statement was that safeties don't score well in Capers scheme...that means both the FS and SS. and lastly the rotoworld blurb is over a month old...Burnett solidified the starting job in camp and he is the starting SS. That is why he played 74 snaps...Peprah who you say is the interim didn't record a single point because he didn't play a single defensive snap. Edit: I am curious where you think he will end up ranking by year's end too...and if you are willing to toss out what you expect for him solo and assist wise for the season that would be cool too. Crazysight
If he stays healthy I'd be surprised if he doesn't finish better than the top 40, I'd say within the top 20 or so anyways. It's true I may be projecting too much off of only one game, but I did have my eye on him before the game to begin with. I think he has upside not so much because of anything related to the scheme, but because I feel he's simply a good young talent, and will be involved regardless of whether its a running or passing situation, again provided he stays healthy. Ironically wouldn't you know I checked the list of the top 40 dbs in my league from last year and number 40 was safety nick collins who scored 101.5 points for green bay last year. I feel Burnett can do better than collins. Edited September 9, 2011 by Crazysight
Crazysight
You still so sure about his being no better than 40 after his performance this week as well? FYI...I dropped him for Chancellor. Now I'm not so sure I should have.

I'm not questioning your IDP knowledge in anyway here, but you've got to admit that Dom really hasn't had much at SS before Burnett in GB. Atari Bigby flashed late in 07 then battled injuries for the rest of his time in GB. Capers had a year with Bigby, and four games with Burnett. During that time they rolled out with guys that they probably shouldn't have at the position. The guy is a very nice tackler. I'm not saying he'll be top 5, but I think top 40 at best is selling him very short. Edited September 20, 2011 by piratesownninjas

I wasn't basing it just on Caper's time in GB...anyway, at this point to finish top 40 he only needs to average a bit more than 8 PPG so he should do that but I am still not 100% sold on him as a DB...but hey I have been wrong before and I surely could be wrong again. Crazysight
He's currently ranked no less than numero uno in my league among all dbs. Top 40 should happen quite easily barring injury, he would only need to average slightly more than 5 points per game in my league to do that using last year's top 40 as a reference (has 28.5 so far in my league, last year's number 40 had 101.5). Top ten or better doesn't look to be out of the question if his production continues to be remotely close to where its been so far, although it would be unrealistic to expect him to average anywhere close to 14 points a game throughout the entire season. I can only hope that Chancellor is in the same ballpark by season's end. Edited September 22, 2011 by Crazysight
Scooby
I read somewhere that Morgan is being moved to FS with Prepah at SS now that collins is out.
darin3
I read somewhere that Morgan is being moved to FS with Prepah at SS now that collins is out. That's what I saw/read as well and I think he'll have a solid week this week, as evidenced by the ranking.
Scooby
That's what I saw/read as well and I think he'll have a solid week this week, as evidenced by the ranking. in a tackle-heavy league (ie MSHB2), wouldnt the SS get more production #'s than a FS? Like the SS is almost a LB'er? I'm still trying to figure all this stuff out, bear with me:) TIA:)
