Houston, TX – Houston Texans linebacker Mario Williams will miss the rest of the season with a torn pectoral muscle, according to a report.

The injury will require surgery sometime this week, according to the Houston Chronicle, which reported rookie linebacker Brooks Reed would take Williams' place in the starting lineup.Williams was hurt during the first quarter of Sunday's 25-20 loss to Oakland.

The former No. 1 overall draft pick recorded his fifth sack of the season on Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell before leaving the game and had an MRI Monday morning that revealed the damage, the Chronicle reported.

According to Texans defensive end Antonio Smith, Williams said he "felt like something popped."

All Texans head coach Gary Kubiak would say after the game was that Williams -- as well as fullback James Casey -- sustained pectoral muscle injuries.

Williams, 26, has 241 tackles and 53 sacks since he was drafted by the Texans in 2006. He has missed only three of a possible 85 NFL games and has started the other 82.

I acquired Reed in a trade over the weekend. In a deep 32 man league, whatcha think of his prospects this year?

I acquired him in a 32 team league last week also. He looked good in preseason and I think he will succeed, but not be dominant like Mario. He will put up a few points every week, but I wouldn't count on him for heavy production.
