McNabb out, Ponder in

The only way I can see the Vikings sticking with McNabb is if they don't believe Ponder is 'ready'. Otherwise it's pretty much inexcusable for a 1-5 team (in a division with a 5-1 and 6-0 team) to not see what their future QB can do. McNabb's numbers may have been OK last night, but anyone who has watched the Vikings games knows how poorly he's actuallly played -- his mobility is now average at best, he won't go deep anymore, and he's missing short throws.

Can't really put much stock in anything Ponder did last night... 2 O-line starters out had him running for his life, garbage time had the Bears playing soft, etc... but the 1 GLARING difference between Ponder and McNabb that was visible last night was Ponder hitting multiple receivers IN STRIDE, ON THE HANDS. McNabb has thrown so many balls behind guys, at their feet, or wherever, that I would have to guess if there is a team stat the Vikes have to be dead last by a mile in Yards After Catch. You could almost see the relief on Harvin's face after the first catch or two from Ponder where he could actually turn and run and try to make a play instead of stopping or going back for the ball and getting swarmed immediately.

Harvin stock up. AP stock up. Whole O stock up. Watching McNabb play last night was BRUTAL. Throwing balls into the dirt. Taking ridiculous sacks. Just terrible. I think Ponder can at least provide some spark, and maybe take some shots where McNabb didn't.

Couldn't hurt IMO.

McNabb ranks:

26th in YAC (4.63) on his pass completions

21st in Average Pass Length of his completions

Tied for 19th in average pass length

19th in QB Rating

edit: thru Sunday night game of week 6.

Oh yeah, he's a stud alright.

Your attempt at somewhat trying to defend an absolute trainwreck of a QB is laughable.

I wasn't trying to defend...just happened to have access to the stat that MnLefty was talking about...added the other stats because I thought they were somewhat relevant (all in the bottom half of the league)

Oh.

Well.

I was about to attack you about your man love for McFingerbang and blatant Eagle homerism, but if you put it that way I'll just quietly crawl back under my rock.

NP and I must admit that I hate seeing this happen to McNabb. He may not have ever won us a SB but he did a ton for the franchise.

Removed the "?", since NFLN is now saying Ponder will start.

Finally. Though I'm sure he'll go through a lot of growing pains, why not let him learn on the job? And let the team evaluate what they have to see if they need to go QB again early next year. Enough with the retreads. Time for a quality 10+ year franchise QB.
