Chris Wells Arizona Cardinals Posted 10/24/11 4:28pm et

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said RB Beanie Wells' knee is stable and has a bone bruise, but he will not need surgery. Whisenhunt is not ready to put a timetable on how long Wells will miss.

Huddle Up: These knee "bone bruises" are often accompanied by some meniscus damage, and lo and behold this is the same knee Wells injured last year. If you recall, Wells sustained a "bone bruise" in the final 2010 preseason contest and missed the first two games. Wells was essentially useless for the rest of the season; then it was revealed in February that the knee was surgically repaired right before the season started. Alfonso Smith is the starter while Wells is out. Arizona travels to Baltimore in Week 8.

So, if we were handing out awards to the most injured running backs, who would get the Most Brittle Running Back Award - Beanie Wells, Felix Jones, Darren McFadden, Jahvid Best, Ryan Mathews?

We call him Beanie The Weanie for a reason.

Beanie Wells insists his right knee injury is not a bone bruise and conceded Monday that it's "badly swollen."

Coach Ken Whisehunt also said Wells doesn't have a bone bruise, both men disputing NFL Network's report. The details of the injury are still unclear, and the Cardinals have declined to confirm or refute the 1-2 week return timetable. Oct 24 - 3:21 PM
