detlef
But the Niners are looking up at exactly one team in the NFL and looking down at all the rest. Packers are 7-0 Niners are 6-1 Everyone else has 2 or more losses. What's more, they've played exactly one of the six games they have against AZ, STL, and SEA. As bad as the Browns are the 49ers should have won by more. The Browns D did give them some trouble and they're not a stellar unit. I'm sure they'll easily win the NFC West, but I don't see them as being in the top 2-3 teams in the NFC. Of course other than the Packers nobody else in the NFC has looked really good through the first half of the season. So who knows, maybe it is SF-GB for the conference title. stevegrab
Didn't watch the game, but perhaps they sort of packed it in the 2nd half because they completely dominated the first. I turned it off after McCoy tried throwing deep into double coverage and the ball was picked off. As bad as the Browns offense was (fumble on 1st/2nd play of game, couple more fumbles on offense that they recovered) I figured it was over then too. But they did close to within a TD at 17-10 with about 6 minutes left. Then the 49ers had a long drive to score a FG and put the game away. Looking at some info now, the 49ers went 3 & out 4 times and had another drive with only one first down before punting. The turnovers (particularly the fumble on opening drive) were the big plays, otherwise looking that the stats (time of possession, total yards, plays, first downs) it was pretty close. PS Do you normally watch the 49ers play (Sunday Ticket or go to the bars).

And, given my schedule, Sunday is often the only whole day my wife and I can spend together. We have a border-line farm at our home, so we're typically out all day (yesterday I extended our chicken coop, we planted next year's garlic, and I processed another batch of home-grown hot sauce) and I don't get my NFL fix until the night game. Which is particularly annoying when it sucks.
detlef
Finally got to watch them play yesterday because they were playing Wash and Carolina was on the bye, so the local Fox affiliate showed the game. Thoughts: 1) I was a bit annoyed with the play-calling. Run on 1st down, gain 6-7, then they'd pass, every time on 2nd. Even in the second half. Even on a 3rd and short, when they were planning on going for it on 4th but ended up kicking a FG when they got a 5 yard procedure call against them, they passed. I honestly thought they were being too cute and, as a result, let Washington stick around. When they committed to the run, they got results, I don't understand why they didn't just pound the rock more. 2) Effing prevent D allowed the only two scores of the game for Washington. Mind you, one was because their kicker converted a 59 yarder at the end of the half. But the TD drive was annoying as hell to watch.. They'd been in Beck's dish all freaking game and dude was not handling it well. Then, they start rushing only 3 and he goes down the field, completing something like 10 of 12 passes. None the less, it's another win and they've still got 5 to play against the division, which is a combined 5-19. OK, but here's my beef. This morning, DP asked Tony Dungy what he thought of Cinci and SF. He dismissed SF because "they're doing it in a weak division." Nice theory, and obviously the division does suck, but they're 6-1 outside the division so far!

stevegrab
That is a strange thing for Dungy to say considering they've played only 1 division game. They probably only need to win 1-2 more games to win that division, it is absolutely horrible. Looking at their games this year, they've been some pretty good teams (CIN, PHI, TB, DET) and their only loss is to the Cowboys. Their 3 remaining non division games are pretty tough, NYG, @BAL & PIT. Figure 2-1 or 1-2, then 4-1 in their 4 division games. So 13-3 or 12-4 is where I see them at the end of the year. They could be the #2 seed in the NFC (Packers will be #1 with 1 or 2 losses at most). But I agree, they do seem to let teams back in games, they had been killing the Browns and kind of let up at the end some as well.
LB49ers
want to see what they do against Giants, IMO NFC overall has been pretty weak outside of GB of course.
Bier Meister
they are no powerhouse, but they are a decent team. i see them as a C+/B- type of team. the fun part this year is that they are not blowing the late leads. we have become accustomed to watching them play good ball games and unravel late. if they can continue to minimize their turnovers while controlling the clock, they certainly can win a game or two (pending match-up) in the playoffs..... ...omg! i can talk 9ers and playoffs again!
