Maybe a dumb question, but what is your definition of a tackle opp given up compared to a tackle opp faced?

Tackle opportunities are described as rushing attempts & pass completions faced plus sacks given up.

(GIVEN UP)What the offense for a team is giving up to their opposition.

(FACED)What the defense is facing from their oppositions offense.

So, TOs given is the sum of the above that a team is on average giving up to their opponents...Faced is the average number of TOs a team has faced versus their opposition.

as an example:

Jets: TOs given=46

Jets: TOs faced=49

Bills: TOs given=51

Bills TO's faced=49

50 is the NFL average for TOs/game

What the above should tell you by looking at it (since the Jets and Bills play this week)

Jets are giving up a below average number of TOs and it is even lower than the average the Bills have been facing....means that Nick Barnett might have some limited upside...as far as the Bills faced number...if you look you see Barnett ranks top 15 and you can assume that is pretty good since he is facing limited tackle opps...look at his up coming schedule and see what those teams are doing and you can get a handle on what to expect upside wise or downside wise for Barnett.

As for the Bills giving up 51 and the Jets facing 49 means that there is some upside in the matchup for David Harris etc...the 49 the Jets face could also help explain why Harris has struggled some and/or been inconsistent.

That help or make things more confusing?

That does help. I was thinking it was all about the defense and was confused by the defense giving up and facing. So in your example, the Bills offense is giving up on average 51 and the Bills defense is facing 49??
