Thursday games

Familiar scenario, not often discussed. Not a who do I start, I know what I will do as the week progresses. As of now, need one starter, 3 choices. These 3 choices are not close, there is a large gap in possible productivity between each of them.

1 = questionable for Sunday, day to day, not practicing, yet.

2 = plays tonight.

3 = plays Sunday.

Take a shot that 1 goes, settling on 3, if not? Or take the 2, tonight?

Assuming all other factors are equal, and it is an important game, as they all are, what are your thoughts when faced with this?

If 1 ends up being out, then you are stuck with 3, also if 1 plays, you can't count on how he will be coming off an injury that is keeping him from practice. If you play 2, you have a chance at mid to good production. I have the same issue. It is like having 2 Sunday mornings each week where you can second guess yourself going back and forth. The real drawback is if you make the wrong move you have 3 extra days to feel bad, as opposed to just getting the whole thing over with on Sunday. I guess what it boils down to is how you personally evaluate the risk/reward in this situation, as well as the no.1 player's history of coming back from injuries.

I would always play the Thursday player with all being equal or close to it ,, my reasoning is if your Thursday player hits pay dirt and scores big you can use a consistent 10 to 15 point guy as your flex. If you Thursday guy lays an egg you then can inert a flex player that is inconsistent that may lay an egg or go off big time ,, we all have one of those type of players on our roster. We hate to put them in our line up because of the possibility of the goose egg but a situation like the one I just gave is the perfect spot to play him.

Umm, I thought I was at the Huddle... Isn't this usually where someone says" the guy who you think will score the most points"?

Na, it really should be a "who do I start" question because things aren't equal... If things were equal, then it wouldn't matter if you chose 2 or 1/3 because they would get you the same points, just on a different day.

It's really an entirely team/league specific question that you can't answer without considering the actual players involved, so all I can really do is spit the same questions back at you.... Is option 3 your best remaining option if 1 can't play, or is the player going tonight as good of an option regardless?If option 3 is the better option if 1 can't go, then problem solved, you wait and see, and if 2 is the best option regardless, then agian, problem solved, you start him with no thought about 1's status.

The issue is if 1 is your best option if he plays, but is highly questionable. But then you simply have to determine if it's worth the risk to wait and see on 1/3, or if you just say fuggit and roll with option 2 (again it matters entirely if there's a difference in 2 or 3).... I could probably go on laying out contingencies all day, but only you know what's the best course of action by weighing your options.

I'm not really sure how one can say with any certainty that any one is the best option, without knowing what your specific options actually are. :tup:

(Edit: for clarity I hope. Man, that got confusing... :wacko: )

I'm sure the start the one that scores the most guy will be along.

I think the OPs situation is something like this (he says the players are not close, big gaps between their potential)

player 1 is an S1 but may not play

player 2 is an S2 and plays tonight

player 3 is an S3 and who he'd be left with if he doesn't play his S2 tonight and the S1 does not play

No doubt more info would be helfpul. A lot depends on how likely 1 is to play. If not very likely, go with player 2. Otherwise wait and see and use 3 if 1 cannot play.

If it's an S1 for Sunday, go with that, otherwise start the S2 for Thursday - unless it's a road game for him for after a long flight. In that case start the best available on Sunday.

I feel like I started VJax last year on a Thursday when he had just come back and he went OFF, but I don't feel like looking it up. Hoping he can do it again tonight.

If you have too many S1 and S2 players and need to bench one, you are in a 4 team league and this forum will not help you. :wacko:
