WOW!

Chicago has a lot of cap room . . . . and needs a backup to Hanie . .

I agree. As much as I like Hanie and anxious to see what he can do, we need to at least grab Orton just in case he sucks and/or Cutler is out longer and Hanie goes down. We're in the playoff hunt and we need a QB.

I think Chicago HAS to get him right? I mean they have a good record and need to keep it up to get into the playoffs and I don't think Hanie is going to get it done. How is the waiver order set in the NFL?

Reverse order of standings I believe . . . Or is it the draft order before the season?

Interesting thought, but w/ the McCaskey's unprecedented tight purse strings AND the fact that Pope mentioned (not a Martz style player) I don't see it happening, though won't deny it could.

Report: Bears will claim Orton

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 22, 2011, 6:15 PM EST

Getty ImagesThe neckbeard could be returning to Chicago.

Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears will attempt to claim Kyle Orton off waivers.

Actually, McClure said he was confirming Jay Glazer’s report. But Glazer never actually reported anything; he just said the Chiefs or Bears “could” claim Orton and it took a life of its own.

Let’s take McClure’s report at face value, though. We’re surprised Mike Martz would embrace the move, but it doesn’t mean the Bears will land Orton.

Waiver priority is decided by record, so the 7-3 Bears have to hope a lot of other teams pass. The Chiefs could claim Orton. Even teams like the Colts, Dolphins, or Redskins could try to kick the tires on Orton down the stretch.

We hope the Bears get him, if only because it’s a good story. Orton was never good enough for the Bears to fully get on board with, so they traded him in the Jay Cutler deal.

Now they want to ask Orton to help get the team back to the playoffs. So that Cutler can take over again.
