Thews40
It happened late in the fourth quarter, with the Chiefs fighting to keep their faint playoff hopes alive. With K.C. trailing by four with less than a minute to play, quarterback Tyler Palko aired it out for Bowe, who blatantly quit on the play so as not to incur the wrath of four Steelers defenders in his direct vicinity. Crazysight
Largely much ado about nothing. That ball was well above Bowe's head and not catchable by him, which I assume is the reason why he had that reaction. He still should have probably at least tried to put a hand up and maybe he could have at gotten a few fingers on it and been able to deflect it to prevent the INT, though after watching and freezing the replay several times I'm not even sure he could have done that. And sometimes tipped balls are easier to pick off anyways for that matter. Watching the replay though the defender who intercepted the ball was I'd say a good 3 yards behind Bowe, and caught the ball himself at the peak of his leap. What's probably more noteworthy is the fact that Palko through it into an area that was surrounded by, count them, 5 Steelers! Maybe the guy has a very calm, cool head under pressure and an uncanny ability to process things as they happen, and knew he had no chance. Also, if the commentators dont say "he should've at least tried" then nobody else makes it out to be a big deal, imo.

It wasn't that far off in slow motion, and it that situation the decision to take a time out was made before the ball got there. It'll be rough watching the films for him this week with the team. Slow motion seems to just make things so much worse...the game is played in full speed....slo-mo makes officials look like idiots, slo-mo makes RBs look like idiots when they miss a hole...makes QBs look bad when they miss the guy that was open for .0001 seconds...etc etc...his arms should have gone up...but the ball was also way behind him...for the record I do think it looked like he alligator'd up....but I just have a small issue with slo-mo
Grits and Shins
My first thought was that he as he jumped up it occurred to him that as high as the ball was thrown it might be for a WR behind him ... thus he kept his arms down to allow the WR behind him to catch the ball. I didn't think of that, but it does make complete sense.
Chief Dick
To me it looked like the reason Palko was pissed was after he saw Bowe raise his hand, he expected Bowe to run straight up the field. Instead, Bowe turned in and the ball sailed behind him. I didn't see that the ball was that close where Bowe could have even tipped it. Collinsworth and Michaels read Palko's anger as being mad that Bowe didn't try. I think he was mad because Bowe ran the wrong route.
gbpfan1231
I am more wondering why he raised his hand as if to say chuck it up I am going deep and will out jump the DB??? Looks like the QB saw that and aired it out and Bowe then changed the direction of his route - that is what I got out of the replay??? And IMO it was a lame jump/non-attempt even if not catchable. He could have tipped it away or blocked view of it/etc. To just not try was weak. CurlyDumps
On the regular telecast angle, it looked like the pass was way high AND way behind him. On the close-up slow mo replay (EZ angle) it's hard to tell that, and that's the angle they keep showing. Bowe's momentum was carrying him forward, he had no shot of even coming close to tipping the ball. I think it was just instinct/reaction to not reach for it. SecondString
The TV commentator (I think it was Collinsworth) suggested that he was afraid of getting hit in the ribs as he went up for the catch, and blasted him pretty good for it. Collinsworth was a WR in the league for years, and this makes sense. But who knows, he may have thought there was a teammate behind him who could make the catch, as mentioned here. muck
IIRC, Bowe has tipped more than a few passes that ended up getting picked. It's also possible that the coaches told him, "If you can't catch it, and you can't bat it down, whatever you do, do NOT tip it."
lkirc
If I was the QB I would be pissed at my WR who put his hand up while totally engulfed in Steeler defenders. What did Bowe see that made him think he was open? I am sure that a QB, especially one without much expereience, automatically throws the ball if his Pro Bowl WR waves his hand to indicate he is open. I have seen Bowe make many tough catches over the middle and don't recall him getting "DeSean" arms. I think he just wasn't as open as he thought and the ball was sailed over his head. Collingsworth is a blowhard who thinks he was the greatest WR of all time. Nothing to see here.....
MrTed46
he raised his hand like chuck it up then cut inside? usually when u raise your hand like that means jump ball and that's what palko did but the moran cut inside
