I've always hates how they're basically saying, "Hey you're one of our star players and people want your jersey, so we're gonna rip your name off the back and sell it to them with the number only so we don't owe you squat", under the guise of protecting the athletes from having their names exploited... As if all the UGA fans were going out buying a #8 jersey, with no clue that it's AJ's number.... And now to directly profit from a pair of pants, that are being sold for that amount for the sole reason that they were worn by that star player? That's frankly outrageous. I'm not sure how some sort of compensation would go for football players who aren't allowed to have jobs, but bring the University millions, because you know all the other athletes would demand compensation too, regardless of earning power (it's not supposed to be a business afterall, even tohugh it is)... But I sure know that I don't like the way that these kids are exploited. It makes it a lot harder to be upset when they leave early to go the NFL. (ETA: and this is where I'd argue that AJ Green did nothing wrong to sell his jersey, but considering that there was a runner for an agent involved, I'll back off on that argument.) That's the beautiful thing about college athletics. They're a massive, money making business and a charity at the same time. It's outstanding really.
