Jacksonville? I understand that they can't always predict who is going to be good, but freaking Jacksonville? I might have gone out on a limb and called that they weren't going to be very compelling TV this year.

The Jacksonville owner is shopping for a buyer and needs air time!!:wacko::lol:

It is crazy that LA does not have a team. I guess they want to use that city to black mail current teams for new stadiums.

Wouldn't doubt it, but they're doing just fine holding the Superbowl hostage:

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Atlanta likely will have to build a new stadium if it wants to host its third Super Bowl.

Yeah, because no one would want to watch the sport's biggest game in a ~20 year old renovated Dome that's heated in February in a city where it barely snows and actually has plenty of fun things to do outside of watching the game. Wow, sounds awful.

To answer the original question, because MNF is no longer the feature primetime game with the great matchups, those are on SNF. And Fox & CBS want to have some of the better games for their own Sunday afternoon packages. There is no flexing for MNF (like there is for SNF starting in week 10).

So there will often be games on MNF which are not very good matchups, especially considering nobody knows who is going to be good when. But most of those games on MNF (and even TNF) will have at least one big name team that draws a decent audience (Chargers tonight on MNF, Steelers this coming Thursday vs. Browns).

Don't recall the Jags records last year, but most teams with 4 wins or less rarely have many primetime games, if they do (like the Browns this coming week) it is against a big name team and/or big rival.

It was actually 8-8, but that doesn't change the fact that nobody gives two poops about Jacksonville outside of the dozen or so people who live there. I don't know how many threads there have been on this forum over the years dogging Jacksonville fans for not showing up to games, only to be met with "if they put out a better product". But the product is surprisingly good, actually. It's just that the city is not that big and everyone who lives there is either a U of F or FSU fan first. In short, nobody cares about the Jaguars.

So, again, why did they put them on MNF? I'm going with the theory posted above that they were trying to find them a buyer. Looks like they found one, but not that long ago.

San Diego is a "big name" team?

Compared to Jacksonville, yes, as well as many other perennial losing teams. Ask the average fan to name players on the Chargers (especially when LT was still there).

The basic answer is MNF is not the marquee game anymore, and some fans just can't understand that. So I tried to provide more insight.

I guess people think every week should be PIT, NE, DAL or some other very popular (but only if they're having a good year).

I follow this stuff pretty heavily over on 506.com and there's good reasons for most of the decisions. But too many people get caught up in the "this matchup sucks and is the only game on, how dare I be subjected to such crap" like they're entitled to some big marquee matchup in every NFL game that is shown on TV.

Easy there, I think you're over-blowing a few things. I understand that you can't predict who is going to be good by week 13. Had this match-up been Philly vs SD, a match-up that was supposed to be good but actually featured two teams that were playing like crap, I'd understand.

But there's 16 MNF games (appears no MNF in week 17), so a total of 32 teams will play on it. That means either ever team gets on there once (and that's not what I'm asking for) or you give teams like the Packers, Pats, Cowboys, Eagles, and Steelers a few games each and a few teams get left out in the cold.

Jacksonville, btw, would be a fine candidate for being left out of the mix, because there's not even enough people in Jacksonville who give two poops about them, why would they think anyone outside of Jacksonville cares? But, not only are they not on the list of teams who lose their spot so that we can get seconds of the Saints or Packers, they're one of the teams getting seconds themselves?

Unless, as was pointed out somewhat jokingly I might add, that they were trying to help dude sell his team.

There is no MNF game for the last week, as it was eliminated because it gave a playoff team a short week to prepare for the playoff game. But there are 2 MNF games in week 1, for 17 games.
