Cowboys Control Destiny

So here we are heading into week 16 and what do we know. We know battles in the East are feroucious. No matter the record, no matter the stats, and no matter how well a team looks, all four teams can fall to the other on any given Sunday.

The Redskins showed they still have some arrows in thier quiver. We can look at the Giants two ways. We can say they are a mediocre team that played yet another mediocre team last Sunday in Dallas which made both look very good on Offense and very poor on Defense. Or we could say that the Giants and the Cowboys are the most inconsistant teams in the NFL but on any given Sunday can be very dangerous.

I could argue that the Cowboys took a lot out of the Giants this past Sunday which is why they came out flat against the Skins while the Cowboys rolled over a poor Tampa club.

So we know the Giants can play ball when they want to or need to. The Cowboys Offense can score on anyone and I have a lot of Confidence in this years Cowboys offense.

We know Slip is on Fire and currently is 3rd NFL All time in quarterback rating. Has 30 TD's so far and is NOT getting the credit he deserves in the same way everyone beats him up. He's playing at a very high level without the picks. I Know, I know, he needs to do it in the playoff and the next two games. Well he has two more games to prove he belongs in the conversation of Elite quarterbacks and to punch his ticket to the dance. Fine. I sure hope his defense helps him out because a lot of the blame is layed at their feet cause he's ballin..........

We know Dallas' D is very suspect and while Ryan is trying to play disguise and pressure, we don't have the talent back their to hold up in man coverage, nor do they seem to be in position to make plays even in zone, nor do they make the plays that hit them right in the hands.

Case in point, the Giants ran the exact same out route against the Skins today trying to hit Nicks and Hall did what our Corners should have done and picked the ball. Hall played tight knowing he had over the top coverage. NO way Eli shouldn't have been able to drop that ball in to Nicks all day being over under coverage. Washington took that chit away and I loved it.

We know the Giants are also as prone to bad mistakes, and I find it odd that nobody is beating Eli up for all the picks he's throwing. And they are BAD picks in the red zone.

We also know the Eagles are also a dangerous team when they line up and decide to play.

Save to say we don't know what team is going to show up on Sunday down the stretch.

We also know that a chink in the armor of GB was exposed today. I posted earlier that the Jennings injury may have a serious effect on the GB offense in that Rodgers lost a trusted go to reciever on blitzes and that extra second holding on to the ball to be sure of his recievers routes cost him dearly today. They also lost their two tackles today. Not to mention they don't have the Defense at all you expect a championship club to have. Just sayin........

So what does all this mean.

It means, the season is going to come down to a game in Dallas against NFC East rival Birds on Christmas Eve, then if that wasn't enough, a final showdown in Week 17 for the division and a playoff birth. What more can you ask for. Exactly as it should be. Can't ask for a better way to end the regular season.

Truth is when I look around the league at Offensive fire power capable of winning big, I see just a hand full of teams. Dallas being one of them.

When I take that same look around the league at Defenses capable of winning big, I see a totally different handful. Dallas NOT being one of them.

Coughlin said after winning in Dallas, "We reached up on the Mountain and took down the star and replaced it with NYG". Well you can take down the NYG and put the star back up while your on your red faced rampage.

Two games, to get two wins and two NFC East Rivals in our way to get em, both of which beat us once already. You gotta love this game fellas.

Thing is, I wouldn't have it any other way. Earn your way in by beating your rivals and on to the Dance where anything can happen.

You can almost say the Eagles control their own destiny. Right now it is still advantage NYG b/c we can't beat these plicks. Dallas has to try to do things the hard way and on the road.

Rob Ryan, get the last 5 minutes of the game straight, you are getting in the way of our divisional title. If you can't hold a lead at home, how the hell can you do it in New York?

Only way Eagles get in is if they win their last two (@ DAL, WAS), AND the Giants must lose to the Jets this weekend.

And if the Cowboys beat the Eagles, and the Giants do indeed lose to the Jets....Dallas clinches before even having to travel to NY. But based on what I saw yesterday, there is no way the Jets can beat the Giants....and thats saying something, since the Giants have only won one game since late October. The jets were pitiful on both sides of the ball in a must-win game for them.

The Eagles looked awesome yesterday. Dallas will have their hands full and thensome on D this week. MCcoy carved them up last time they played. The Eagles are a shoe in to score a lot of points in this game IMO. Dallas O needs to keep up the pace or the Boys will get steam rolled. This game will probably come down to who wins the turn over battle. It should be a very exciting game and finish to the season.

I only worry about the last time the Eagles looked this good (a 34-7 win over Dallas)....they followed that with a complete clunker. They need some help from the Jets next week to make things very interesting....and based on how bad the Giants have played the last month, it could happen if Rex can rally his troops.

But I do like the fact that this game means something...in spite of all the posts a month ago making fun of Eagles fans that their season was over before Thanksgiving. Karma's kind of a bitch.

Indeed. Sometimes fans of teams that are quite successful don't know how well off they are. I don't think he's Vince Lombardi but the anti-Reid brigade should take a look around the league at some of the zombies masquerading as HCs on the sidelines. Most of the fans of those teams would kill to have the success Reid has brought the Eagles, even if they haven't hit the jackpot.

really? can't find any, other than from Zooty who has always been a Reid hater, and a moment of weakness from Avernus  I found some posts criticizing him and his playcalling and his talent evaluation (as most fans do of any team after a loss)...but not many calling for him to be fired?? I'd call it a few, rather than a lot.

But their bandwagon spots are now taken. My post above was more referring to the author if this thread...and this one

We still likely will miss the playoffs....but it is kinda cool that, in spite of that thread....it ain't next year just yet.

Oh, found these too

By the way, I know your sore that the Dream team is coming apart at the seams but hey there's always next year..............

 It must suck to have watched the dream team go up in flames and have nothing left to root for except the demise of Dallas

Your absolutely right swamm. Your still in it. They shouldn't be but they are. Hell the odd aren't all that bad either when you consider all that has to happen is you beating us and the jets beating the giants at home. Hell you already spanked us once. The way were playing o. Defense I'm afraid McCoy may run for 300. Vicky is healthy somewhat and babin is playing well..just glad there's meaning in these last few.

As a guy who has been known to follow the Chiefs, I stopped reading right here.

This season, there is no more inconsistent team in the NFL than KC.

Well, we need four things to happen (down from needing 6 things this past weekend):

1. Beat the Cowboys in Dallas

2. Jets beat Giants.

3. Beat the Redskins at home.

4. Giants beat Dallas in NY.

if all four of those things happen, we win the east at 8-8 via tiebreakers  I'm thinking the only game where we need an upset to happen is the game in Dallas. Jets should be favored over the Giants, we'll be favored over the Skins, and the Giants would likely be a small favorite over the Cowboys in NY. Its an ugly path, and we need a lot of breaks, but its clearer than it was a couple weeks ago.

Two weekends ago, I'd have said our chances were 2%. Last weekend, maybe 5%. I'd say now they are 10-15% at best. And as I have iterated in other threads, no one from this division is doing anything other than perhaps winning their 1st-round home playoff game, so much of this is wasted energy anyway. Still kinda fun while its going on, though.

IMO, when it all shakes out, Eagles will be eliminated this weekend either with a loss or a Giants win....I think one of those happens. After everything this Philly team has been thru, it sure would be kinda interesting if it came down to Week 17, though.

Exactly I'd give them Pat Shurmur and a couple first round picks for Reid.

Swammi, this page puts the Eagles at 7.2% chance to make the playoffs

I was being optimistic at 10%

I do think that calculator is a bit off by ranking the Cowboys at 77%, and the Giants at only 16%.

if either team wins out, they get the division. Either team can also lose in Week 16, and win in Week 17, and win the division. The only materiel difference is the the Giants can't lose while the Cowboys win this week. And if it comes to Week 17, the Giants are home. Hard to imagine that one scenario of the Giants losing and cowboys winning being enough to swing in the percentages so heavily in Dallas' favor??

Yeah, it has some figuring in of which team it think will win, not sure based on what. I don't give the percentages much weight but its good for figuring out what games are important and how they affect playoff chances. I'm sure there's a ton of sites out there.

I'm a bit of a  : but cannot quite understand how it works. Tell your Eagles that this dude is dissing them, maybe it will give them some more inspiration to

Eagles  Cowboys

Who cares? None of the NFC east teams will get past the 49ers/Saints/Packers anyway. If I'm, say, a Texans fan, yeah, I'm pumped just to be in the playoffs. The prospect of my team squeaking in and getting our asses handed to us really doesn't excite me. I'm almost rooting for the Cowboys to win the division so I can watch Romo choke in the playoffs.

NFC East winner might not even be better than ATL or DET. But we've seen hot teams do well in the playoffs, and all 3 (SF, NO & GB) are beatable, heck the Saints lost to the 2-12 Rams.

What concerns me is that this is oddly similar to when we played a few years back for the playoffs the last game of the season. The Eagles just found out they were in it just before the game and proceed to kick the living crap out of us. I just hope were ready for any shots of good hope you all get prior to kickoff.

Honestly, Philly worries me A LOT. I'm not worried about our O against the Philly D but I am worried about our D agaisnt McCoy.

Should be a good one.
