dfv87
He is calling Adrian Peterson playing vs Wash the worst decision EVER by the Vikings Organization... ahead of such inspirational moments like "Herschel", or 12 men in the huddle, or kneeling on the ball so we can win in OT... While I am completely pissed AP got hurt... should he have played is not even in the equation for me. He was able to go and he suited up to play, he is a football player, thats what he does. Stuff happens. This leads me to the discussion should he have played? I say yes, this is not the NBA where you tank games to get better drafts. Now I was conflicted that they won and thus lowered our draft chances but as a true fan I always want them to win. IMO that is why the NFL is the best league is because teams do try every week...Thoughts?
Savage Beatings
I'm sure Peterson himself would have been demanding to play so that he could try to hit contract milestones. If a guy of Peterson's caliber is healthy enough to play, then you owe it to the player, the team, and the fans in the stadium to play the guy. Never listen to any sports radio, it is completely full of chit spouted by people who don't believe a word of what they are saying. It is for the schlock benefit only, aimed at firing up the terminally stupid. 2. You cannot tank in the NBA, they have a 14 team lottery to decide draft order. dfv87
I will agree that talk radio is designed to get ratings and if Peterson had not played, they would have been doing the "how long would mauer/peterson milk it" schtick, but I was just wondering if anyone else thought he should have sat? I respectfully disagree that you cannot tank in the NBA... They do it every year to get the maximum ping pong balls in the lottery every year... I remember Mark "dance machine" Madsen jacking up 7-8 three pointers in a game that the wolves needed to lose. It is common place in the NBA to tank IMO. Hugh 0ne
You play to win, tanking never works (with the exception of the Pittsburgh Penguins losing on purpose and getting Mario Lemieux instead of Kirk Mueller ). If Peterson is healthy, he wants to play, and should play. If the Vikings tanked games they probably would have f*cked up drafting Luck some other way, like letting the draft timer expire. I will add a quick and a for being a Vikings fan right now though. Edited December 27, 2011 by Hugh 0ne

I was at that game and thought it completely unprofessional, a joke. That said, I disagree about tanking in the NBA and, for that matter, in any sport. For any sports team to tank for a high draft pick, at least one of those guys is taking part in his own execution by tanking, is he not? dfv87
I agree it is completely idiotic to tank... Yeah let lose so we can draft better players to take our spots... And they say athletes are dumb. Edited December 27, 2011 by dfv87
MikesVikes
They blame Joe Mauer for not playing and now they blame Adrian for playing. You can't win. My brother in law said that maybe his ankle was taped up so much that the only thing left to give in a collision was the knee. There might be something to that. But AP has wanted to play for a few weeks now and has had to wait for this long. The ESPN people are just as bad as the locals with their opinions. Personally, I don't appreciate Keyshawn criticizing players for not having a good team attitude but that's just me.
MikesVikes
The NBA did tank games until the lottery came around. Which is why the lottery came about. What other league comes to mind when you think of teams tanking?

delusions of grandeur
I was at that game and thought it completely unprofessional, a joke. That said, I disagree about tanking in the NBA and, for that matter, in any sport. For any sports team to tank for a high draft pick, at least one of those guys is taking part in his own execution by tanking, is he not? This. People who talk about tanking don't seem to realize that the season is basically an audition to decide if you're retained or not. Why any coach or player would just throw in the towel on a season, when they have bigger long-term career concerns, is beyond me... The NFL has to have the highest rates of turnover of any profession.... Further, fans pay a chunk of change to go to these games... How would you feel shelling out that dough to go to a Vikings game, and find out that a healthy AP didn't play because they felt the game was "meaningless"... That's a slap in the face to the fans to say that the only thing that matters is the playoffs, and not entertaining the people who pay for their salaries (to be entertained). (ETA: this is obviously different than playoff teams sitting players, because the fans, coaches and players all realize that their priority is staying healthy for the playoffs. As for everyone else, you're paid to play the game.) Edited December 28, 2011 by delusions of granduer
