ROTY Offensive and Defensive

As much as I hate to admit it when I'm wrong about a player, Cam Newton wins this award hands down. Did not see this coming and its making me re-evaluate my draftnick prowness.

On the defensive side of the ball, Aldon Smith gets my nod.

I don't think anyone could have predicted that Cam would be this good this quickly... You saw flashes from his time at Auburn, but he was supposed to be coming in extremely raw, with only 1 year as a starter in a not-so-NFL spread offense, and sailing and throwing inaccurate passes at the combine. How quickly he was able to put it all together is nothing short of remarkable.

AJ Green has to get some consideration for OROTY too, coming in as pro-ready as possible. I'm almost convinced that he's the most prototypical WR you can get, with having no weaknesses in his play, size, speed. Calvin and Julio might be bigger monsters with their size and leaping ability, but AJ can make catches look easy that they drop... Over 1,000 yards in his rookie year with a rookie QB who doesn't have a particularly great arm, and was a big part of taking the lowly Bungles to the playoffs, and I think non-UGA-homers will agree, that he's right behind Cam if not right up with him in being the rookie MVP.

Yep...AJ Green will get some votes and make it look credible. But Cam should get the 1st place votes by a wide margin.

As for the DROY, I had Von Miller locked into the award until about 3 weeks ago. Over the past 3 weeks, Miller has totaled 2 tackles, zero sacks and was benched yesterday for lack of effort. NOT DROY material. Smith was running neck and neck with him anyway....just makes it easier.

I would have thought your pathetic dynasty performance would have done that

I agree with both of these. I was skeptical about Cam at first too, but I too have to admit I was totally wrong. I think that AJ Green and Dalton may get some votes as well, but they had much more support around them than Cam. He definitely deserves it.

I would vote Dalton but you are right Cam will get it.

Does anyone thing Patrick Peterson CB will be in the running for Def Rookie

I made a strong case for the dude in NE last year. He will get some 3rd place votes at best.

I think Newton gets it for sure. Dalton had a terrific year getting to the playoffs with an aging Benson and rookie #1 WR. Newton has better stats, and he would be in the playoffs too if the Panther defense could stop anyone. Bengals D allowed 100 fewer points than the Carolina D this year.

Miller hasn't been playing because the cast on his hand doesn't allow him to shed blockers like he had previous to the injury - which has seriously affected his production. It has nothing to do with a lack of effort. Seriously, can you provide some credible link that supports your claim?

Yeah, I'm a UGA homer (Richt sux, but that's another topic). As good as AJ has been, and as big a surprise as he's been this early, and as glas as I am to see it, he's not in Cam's league as far as ROTY consideration for this season.

I think you need to make a point of looking for reasons not to give to Newton and Aldon Smith.

I thought that Newton would be better than most were assuming, but only as much as I didn't think he'd suck like it seemed everyone else did. I had no idea he'd be this good. I simply thought he had a better set of skills than all the guys he was being compared to. Bigger and more durable than Vick, a better head on his shoulders than Young, and that the only thing he had in common with Russel was that both were big and black.

As for Smith, I was effing pissed with the selection. It seemed like a reach and all the descriptions of him on draft reports looked liked things you say about a guy because you're trying hard to say something nice. Needless to say, I'm thrilled to be wrong about that one.

Well if you insist.

Broncos OLB Von Miller was benched for ineffectiveness in Week 17.

Not to defend Bronco Billy but benched for ineffectiveness was due to the cast i assume...and not effort

I agree. Sometimes I have to spell things out .... I just assume people can read between the lines. I suppose "Lack of Effort" was the wrong terminology .....hell he SHOULD win DROY but he won't. It will go to Smith.

And its ok to defend BB....he needs friends too.
