CaptainHook
Well, stupidly going for it only cost them one point. Clearly intentional grounding there. Good call by the refs for the safety.
CaptainHook
I think it was a good idea to go for it even if they didn't get it. why?
CaptainHook
A 43 yard FG isn't "take the points". In the NFL it is.
wiegie
Well, stupidly going for it only cost them one point. Clearly intentional grounding there. Good call by the refs for the safety.you can't say it cost them any points yet first off, it's not clear they would have made the field goal--given it was 43 yards against the wind, the chances are probably only 2/3 that he makes it. That makes the expected value of trying the kick only two points. Secondly, the Falcons have the ball back in good field position, so they could add more points to what they already have. Ursa Majoris
In the NFL it is. Nope. Significant number of misses in recent weeks. It's windy there too.

CaptainHook
Oh. Because a nerd who has never coached football says so. My bad. How'd that work out for the Falcons, btw? Edited January 8, 2012 by CaptainHook

CaptainHook
They got the two points wiegie's stats said they would likely get. That was if the drive stalled on the 2 yard line. I hardly think the Falcons were thinking, "hey if we don't get the first down here at the 27 yard line, maybe we'll pick up the safety." gilthorp
Don't argue with Captain Knowitall. Giants just need to loosen up - their coach is to blame.

CaptainHook
[Hook]Should have "taken the points" [/Hook] I can see going for it on 4th and an inch at home. But, I probably would have kicked the FG for the lead. But I guess I'm smart enough to see the difference between the road team going for it on 4th and a yard on the opponents 26 against the Giants defensive front and the home team going for it on 4th and and inch from the 5 against the Falcons defensive front. Tally
IMO field postion needs to be a factor in any 4th and short situation. I agree w/ hook I would have kicked the field goal in the AtL spot but Giants would have burried ATL very deep on their side of the field... don't really think your comparing apples to apples not all 4th and short are the same situation, nobody would ever go for 4th and short when on their own 9 yard line. CaptainHook
Fixed he didn't say "make the field goal". He said "kicked it". That doesn't imply a successful one or not. Edited January 8, 2012 by CaptainHook
