As many IDP players know, scoring  rules are a key to determining value.   Our league is a complex league that utilizes 3 year contracts 60 maximum  for 32 man rosters.  We use a value  qualify to determine extension salaries at $8500 per point x 20% with a total  cap of 45M.

I will post our rules in a different topic.

The reason for this post is to show  our scoring.  Our goal is to get player  value at the core positions as close as possible between offense and defense.  We also increased QB a point in passing TD's  to ensure player valuation remains high in this 14 team league.

What we did was score the defensive  position uniquely at their position. As an example, and you will see we score  more based on opportunity.  DE/DT's as an  example are awarded 3 points per tackle and 1.5 points per assist compared to  LB's at 2 per tackle and 1 per assist.

The net result of these changes makes  for an incredibly active league because of balanced scoring. It is more  commonplace to trade a stud DE for a stud WR or a stud RB for a stud LB.

You will see when I post our rules  the complexity;  We use MFL but have a designed custom spreadsheet we use  offline to ensure accurate management given cap hits, contract years and cash  transaction.

I realize this type of league is not  for the faint of heart but we have found it really marries the GM/owner  experience.

I thought some of you may be  interested if you are trying to design the best possible balance between  offense and defensive players:  As an  example our league has 8 defensive players in the top 25 overall in scoring:

Hope it helps!
