Timing

Well ....... my take on the 49'rs / Saints game is that it often .... just like this game .... comes down to the luck of "timing".

If Graham's 66 yd Td catch in turn ends up being a 56 yd grab with him being dragged down at the 10 ......... thus, leaving the Saints the opportunity to whittle away at that 1:37 that remained on the clock. If the Saints final Td came with only 10 -15 seconds left in the game there would likely be no 9 seconds heroics of Smith to Davis.

I know ... the same could be said for Smiths 28 yd scamper to the endzone leaving 2:11 rmaining for the eventual Brees to Graham Td.

This was one of those times ...... where the victor of the game was the victor of timing.

That or Greg Williams could have double-teamed Vernon Davis on that last drive instead of blitzing.

After that play I thought to myself, good for the 49ers, they had a good run, really made a game of it. No way they turn around and score in that little amount of time, not with Alex Smith, they just aren't built like that. Amazing.

Really touching when Davis was crying too, just like when he was drafted. Made me want to go watch Rudy again.

I obviously wasn't going so far as to think they had no chance, but I absolutely admit I was beginning the, "Hey, it was a great year so even if we come up short, I'm still proud of my team" bit. Cliaz was over and was amazed I wasn't breaking things!

Clock management is sooo important. If I were a head coach, I'd have an assistant on the sidelines just to be thinking about scenarios and how we should manage the clock every game, so I wouldn't have to worry about it while managing the game. "Clock Boy" I'd call him, and he would be well paid.
