frenzal rhomb
right now looking at Pinehurst, NC - cool golf courses, cool village but all the shopping etc - I have 20 years to go though so who knows what it will be by then
Tford
My family has some vacation property near Mesa, Arizona. Wouldn't hurt my feelings to end up there when I hang it up for good. I got a good 30 years to figure that out though.
Chief Dick
I'd be happy to retire in Kansas. The bigger question is if I will ever get to retire.
The Next Generation
I have a 3-year-old son and an 18-month-old son. I don't have time to think about retiring!!!
rajncajn
I have 1 1/2 acres waiting for me here. Whether I'll ever be able to afford to live on it is the big question.

muck
I'd be happy to retire in Kansas. I'd like to retire near the friends and family I will have built a life time with. I never really understood the urge to leave all the relationships behind. If you like where you live so little now and you like the people you're near so little now, go ahead and move and get it over with.
whoopazz
My MIL retired in Florida after living her whole life in upstate NY. Her husband passed, she's down there alone (some friends of course), and is totally miserable and lonely.

If you like where you live so little now and you like the people you're near so little now, go ahead and move and get it over with. I agree but I can see why some people do it. If your kids are grown and take jobs in other towns, or as you've gotten older you don't have as many social friends, at some point you might just want to find a place with better weather or lower cost of living and enjoy your time as best you can. I've known a few people that all their kids have ended up in different cities so the parents retired at a location better suited to visit the grand kids and such. I'll probably die within a few blocks of where I am now, but who knows how I'll feel when I'm 65+. I might not like my friends that much, or I'll be rich enough to be a snow bird and still be able to see friends and family for half the year. I guess you just never know. Yukon Cornelius
I will have a place in northern MN or Alaska and Toas or Flagstaff.
Azazello1313
hard to say. lots of things could change in the 25 years or whatever before that becomes a reality. probably go (or stay) wherever any grandkids might be congregating. if it were totally up to me with nothing else to sway me, part of me has always wanted to live in southern louisiana. not in NOLA, but maybe within an hour or so. have a boat and all that chit. montster
Five years ago, we lived in San Diego for six months. That was the closest to perfect weather I've ever experienced over an extended amount of time. We went to the beach on an 80-degree day ... in February. The Irish Doggy
Yeah, I'd probably stay put in Cincinnati. But I'd have a house in Michigan (northern LP) for the summers.
Scooby's Hubby
I was born an oilman and will die an oilman, never to leave my production. I would like a second place in or around Destin, Fl. Now, if my kids move off I may try to get closer to them. And of course, being as young as I am anything can change from now until then. Ursa Majoris
Ms Cid and I have talked about retiring to New Mexico. I'd love to be out by Santa Fe. Yep. This is one of three states - NM, TX and NC are all at the top of the list but others are under consideration. With only 5 years to go (that's the plan and it's still doable) I'm going to start scouting pretty soon.
CaP'N GRuNGe
Probably at least somewhere near where our kids end up settling down. Preferably away from cold and snow. I'm 38 and she's 35 so we're probably talking 35 years down the road as i'm sure the retirement age will be at least 70 if not more by then. Sugar Magnolia
I am retired--well except for a dog training biz, I do because I love more than the $$, but the $$ is nice. We decided on Bend, OR for the outdoor activities, mountains, great golf, and culture. Our second choice was Asheville, NC. Actually Asheville was my husband's first choice. If we could afford it, we would have a second house probably along the central coast of CA or Hawaii for the winter months. Some of the places we checked out before retiring were: California: Grass Valley and Nevada City area Colorado: Boulder, Denver, Ft. Collins, and Colorado Springs Oregon: Ashland, Eugene, and Portland Washington: Whidbey Island North Carolina: Pinehurst, Chapel Hill, and Asheville Virginia: Charlottesville and Williamsburg
