KOKIDKOKID
Wed 9/5 from Thursday 9/6 due to Obummer giving a speech at the Demo Convention on 9/6...NFL didn't want to interfere with that gripping/epic speech I guess. 1 less day to wait for real football I suppose. rajncajn
On NFL.com NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced Tuesday that the 2012 season-opening NFL Kickoff game will be played first the first time on a Wednesday in order to avoid a conflict President Barack Obama's Sept. 6 speech at the Democratic National Convention. The Super Bowl XLVI-champion New York Giants will host the game at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 5 at 8:30 p.m. ET. The game will be aired on NBC with the NFL Kickoff 2012 beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. The 2012 Democratic National Convention is being held in Charlotte, N.C., and Obama is planning to make his acceptance speech at Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers
stevegrab
I don't like this primarily because our draft is held on Tuesday of that week and it means one less day to get the draft results entered and for owners to spot any problems as well as getting their line-ups set (at least for those players in that first game). I guess this sets a precedent for moving the game to Wednesday in the future when there is a conflict like this. (Our draft has always been after the last pre season game and before the first NFL game. It used to be on Labor Day weekend but we kept having trouble with people out of town. So Tuesday has worked well and its been that way for close to 10 years.)
KOKIDKOKID
Agree - our draft is always the Tues after Labor Day...one less day to input rosters is right....plus is there a doubt who the Demo party is gonna run on their ticket for president? What a waste...why does the incumbant party have a convention anyway - is there really any drama about who they will nominate? KO'd
MikesVikes
I always have a draft on that Wednesday.

stevegrab
can't you input as the draft is happening ? Sure we could but who is going to do that? And how much does it detract from their ability to draft? We tried doing that one year, and the commissioner (me, I am one of two co-comish) was spending too much time during the draft entering picks to keep up on who was picked, and what their strategy is. Then their pick would come and they'd be trying to catch up while all the other guys kept asking "So whose pick is it, and why are we waiting." As it stands now I go home after the draft (usually get home about 10PM) and spend the next hour or two entering the rosters and double checking them. Couldn't the NFL just stick to the current plan of having the opening games on Thursday despite what the political parties plan for their conventions.

Cowboyz1
What do you expect with a coke snorting, homosexual, socialist, Kenyan Muslim in office? Oh the horrors. Hey pal that's our president your bad mouthing. Like him or not the man with the title our president should evoke some manner of respect. Besides the man is as Muslim as you are monarchical. It amazes me how people think just because a Guy's dad is from Kenya and he names his son with a middle eastern smith, he automatically has to be Muslim, uses dope, takes it up the arse, and be Marxist. Never mind the fact he was raised Baptist, has a wife and kids, and is the first black man to be the leader and most powerful man in the entire free world. So if in your eyes he is all those things you say then what does that say about the majority who put him there? Moreover what does that say about the candidates you choose to vote for as none of them are able to beat a, what did you say," coke snorting, homosexual, socialist, Kenyan Muslim". So it stands to reason that's his opponents, the ones you seem to support are no better then a crack head, bent over taking it up the rear while sucking off some oil exec, and giving out free rim jobs to the poor and needy. That's similar to a teabag party but I believe they now refer to it as getting a Romney or a sackforum!
