The Colts and Releasing a Legend

As much as people complain about Irsay, well, at least he knows how to handle a "legend" at the end of a career.

Ted T. could have learned a lot from this situation. Then again, so could have Favre.

Indy and Manning parted ways with little to no drama.

SO, why didn't Ted just let Favre go away? They could have released him and the drama could have just gone away. As it turned out, it came back to bite him when MN and Favre beat them two times in a season a few years ago.

Either way, I give Indy props for just moving on and letting it go. Had TT and Favre acted a bit more like adults they could have done the same thing and not divided a GB Nation that is still Favre's Legacy of the 90's and early 2000's.

Where Peyton goes will say a lot on how his legend continues. I still wonder how healthy he really is.

Should be an interesting couple of weeks.

Yeah,

It was a jab and probably didn't require another thread...but at least it's not at Tebow.

In some ways a meaningless thread, but at the same time warranted in the fact that TT could have just released Favre and truly moved on... but he chose to get in a "pissing match with a skunk" and both were wrong. Both are in the past.

Now, with this situation, the Colts moved on and it hasn't divided the city. There is no "media circus" so to speak and it should be an example of how a GM and his "legend" can work together and move on. Other organizations, and Favre-like Divas can move on with an amiable solution.

I do hope Manning can prove he can still play. It will be an interesting couple of weeks.

I say Manning and Wayne will end up in Arizona. Houston would be nice since...imagine that offense with AJohnson, AFoster, ODaniels, and Wayne.

Refresh my memory, how did TT mishandle the Favre situation?

By not letting Favre hold the team hostage with his retiring/not retiring BS (again) and rightfully telling (actually showing) that prima donna butthead where to get off.

TT like totally rocks.

Deva yes....but he could have just shown Favre the door. He asked to be let go...Teddy was afraid of that...and it still bit them.

If they were moving on....just let him go.

TT has done a good job in GB....but still needs to do it for years to do what Wolf and Holmgren did.

This year's collapse was proof he isn't there yet.

Favre retired multiple times and then tried a power play. No way you give him a release after pulling all of that crap to go to your divisional rival.

Oh, and I know you'll love this...

Wolf/Holmgren/Favre= One Super Bowl win.

Thomason/McCarthy/Rodgers=One Super Bowl win.

If they win a second, they've surpassed Wolf/Holmgren/Favre, because at the end of the day, the most important thing is Super Bowl wins.

If I recall correctly, Favre retired then wanted to play again. So TT traded him. I'd rather trade somebody than get nothing for him. I'm sure the Colts would rather have gotten something for Manning, they just couldn't.
