OK so I have done a little bit of research and I have gone to a local shop and put a few camera's in my hands. I talked for a while with the salesman and told him I was looking for an entry level DSLR and that I also didn't want something I was going to grow out of right away. We went through what was most comfortable in my hands and Canon one that contest quickly over the Nikon. We didn't really look at many of the other brands due to limited availability of lens' and flashes by comparison to the Oly's and Sony's and the like.

So here we are looking at Nikon and Canon and here is where I start getting unsure of what to do.

The salesman sets me up with the T3 and the D3100. Both nice cameras but??? The T3 is a 12 mega pixel and the 3100 is a 14.5. I start doing my research and the T2i and the T3i are both 18 mega pixel cameras. Problem is that the i's are sold body only. That means a good bit more change from my pocket. The 18-55 lens isn't going to take advantage of the extra mega pixels if I am not mistaken which means buying at least 2 lens' right off the bat. If I buy at the local shop, which is what I would like to do, I am probably looking at upwards of 1200 out the door. I can get the T3 with the 18-55 lens for about 600 with tax and another 150 gets me the 55-250 lens. So i'm looking right around 800. I believe I have all the same auto settings with either camera which will be important as I want to be able to use the camera as I learn the manual functions. So the question is whether or not the extra 6 mega pixels are really worth the 400 bucks?

I want to make my purchase at least a week before the April 26th seminar on the Canon EOS cameras. From what the salesman told me it is worth 4 times the 50 bucks it costs.

So what say you experts?

Then I am looking at their website and find this.

So I talk to the guy at the camera shop today and point out the online offer they have on the T3i and he still thinks I would be better off with the T3. I am missing something here and not sure what it is?.?.?

Thanks I hadn't seen that thread. Must have missed it when I was scouring the forum. Keg and I spent some time on this last night and I am going to jump up a notch and get this http://www.adorama.com/ICA60DK1R.html . I plan on ordering this weekend to have it in time for a local seminar on the EOS cameras.

Can't go wrong. Nice choice.
