I'm not a computer genius.  Seriously, not by a long shot.  Because of that, it baffles me that I've managed to figure out how to post links using the new website and so many others haven't.

My wife would slap you silly for calling him an "autistic kid."  The preferred version is "kid with autism."

Just saying.  Btw, my grandson has autism so I usually notice any headline associated with that.  I'll listen to the full video when I get home.

Me too, the contempt in their voice, zero patience, condescending tone...obviously it's time to go do something else when you reach the point that you just can't stand the kids.  I'd last maybe a week in that job.

It’s okay for me that people still say that like that.  I have a lot of new parents contact me (btw, for all you huddlers I am a national advocate for ASP and FXS if you have anyone who needs help/direction) and use the expression “my autistic son” and it is because they just are just not educated in the holistic knowledge base.  You really have to be immersed in the field of special needs or deal with doctors regularly to understand the differences.  So for the most part it doesn’t bother me.   But, just for general knowledge there is no disease called autism.  It is a spectrum that measures a person’s social skills, communication skills and repetitive behaviors and/or interests (and in certain cases cognitive impacts).  Depending where a person falls on that spectrum is what the overall diagnosis is.   The ‘catch-all’ phrase is called ‘pervasive development disorders’.  This spectrum accounts for Asperger syndrome, autism and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS)

And it can be pain because what services you receive are based on your diagnosis from that spectrum.  My son is about as hard hit from Fragile X Syndrome as you can get; however, because he is very social he was not listed as truly in the autism spectrum (his diagnosis has been changed to fall in the ASD now).  My daughter has been hit pretty hard in the socialization skills but has a freaky memory.  Because she can communicate well but has socialization issues, she is listed as PDD-NOS.  It can be very confusing (and still is sometimes for me).

The thing is, no one knows what causes 98%+ of these children to fall within these ranges and that’s what makes it so difficult.  You hear people talking about a how do we find a cure for autism but the reality is there is no cure for a spectrum ranking.  Parents and Doctors have no idea what causes these issues and they are all different and varied as the children themselves.  For all we know one child in Maryland could have been affected by some environmental agent while another child in Virginia with the same symptoms and ranking on the spectrum could have been affected by something the mother did during the pregnancy.  It is truly  a massive, unknown collection of what ifs.  My wife and I were incredibility lucky in that a genetic disorder (and the only known genetic cause of ASD) called Fragile X Syndrome is what causes our children to fall on the spectrum.  As weird as it may sound to other parents on here I thank G*d everyday that my children have this disorder and not some unknown factor.  The worst thing for any husband (in my opinion) is to see the look in your wife’s face when your child is diagnosed on the spectrum and you simply do not know why.

This is one of the things I've found really alarming lately.  Obviously something in the environment has to be contributing to the autism spike, but what?  Another strange one, kids hit puberty earlier than they did 50 years ago, and a hell of a lot earlier than 100 years ago.  What's up with that??

There was a recent study that found obese women are 67% more likely to give birth to a child with autism.  Interesting, but that's not the whole answer.

A big part of the reason (imo) is the impact of all the chemicals and hormones that are in our food.

Ok, I'm confused...

The title says "Special needs teacher won't be fired after bullying autistic kids"

But in the video, at 3:13 text is displayed saying "The woman you are about to hear, Jodi, was fired."

So was she fired or not?

Didn't have time to watch the whole video, so didn't get to hear all the really nasty stuff.

Another factor of more cases is that it is just getting diagnosed more often now where prior cases were just kept undiagnosed.  And the Autusm Spectrum has expanded over the years.  For instance, Asperger Syndrome was not formally recognized until 1994.

Yeah, I remember back in 6th grade when this girl Kendra's boobs started to finally show we all freaked out.  Now kids are starting to develop much earlier - my wife sees it at school all the time.  It's just like someone said, it's all the hormones and chemicals.  I think i read somewhere that drinking out of a plastic water bottle releases some of the plastic chemical into your body (dissolves in the water) and it mimics estrogen.  Nuking microwavable dinners produces free radicals, dissolved plastic chemicals and processed, hormone injected food in to your body.  Doesn’t surprise me between those items and the air pollutants from cars and coal burning plants and all that jazz that we are not all sterile now.
