Post-draft Risers and Fallers

Recommended Posts

Risers

Matthew Stafford/Kevin Smith - Ever since they drafted Stafford, the draftniks have expected them to take a tackle early in every draft since... Though their line appeared to improve throughout last year, Riley Reiff gives Stafford a guy he can trust to protect his blindside. They also add Broyles to bolster the recieving corps, and did not address RB. Unless LeShoure gets his act together, then both Kevin Smith and Stafford get a bump, with a RB that Stafford loved to dump off to last year.

BenJarvis Green-Ellis - The Bengals didn't did not draft a RB until the 7th round, and so it will be Green-Ellis's job to lose. Surely everyone has given up on Bernard Scott by now.

James Starks - Another back who was expected to maybe get some more competition with Grant likely leaving, should have no problem staying atop the depth chart... His health and Rodgers/Kuhn taking the bulk of the touchdowns are the only things that may keep him from being a solid RB2.

Greg Little - Much to everyone's surprise the Browns didn't take a WR early, and the one they got in the 4th looks like he may just be a one-trick pony to stretch the field. I'm still not sold on Little, but if they can polish him up over this offseason, he has upside, and could be worth the flier with a new QB to throw to him.

Jaquizz Rodgers (dynasty) - I pretty much knew this when they resigned Snelling, and it was confirmed by the Falcons not drafting another back, that this year will be Quizz's audition to see if he can be the heir-apparent to Turner. People too often mistake him for a scat-back because he's 5'6, but the kid has some big bulk on that frame and would be a bowling-ball with 10 pounds added. Someone to watch this year for sure or stash in dynasty.

Jets running game - We know Sanchez/Tebow isn't going to be good for anyone's fantasy value (goodbye Stephen Hill, we hardly knew ye), but with the Jets not drafting a RB, there's some nice potential here for whichever of Greene and Powell comes out on top.

Larry Fitzgerald - you know he was lobbying for this move to keep him from getting blanketed with constant coverage, and as Floyd proves himself (under the best WR mentor in the biz), Fitz will finally get some breathing room... Not getting a new QB hurts, but it isn't like you have to hit Fitz right on the money for him to come down with it.

Fallers

LaGarrett Blount - Self-explanatory after Blount's poor performance last year, and them taking Martin in the first. For a guy his size to not even be a good goal-line vulture, it looks pretty grim for Blount owners.

Nate Washington/Damian Williams - both guys performed well with Britt getting hurt last year, but I see Kendall Wright as far more than just a speedy slot guy, and think they have similar plans to stretch the field with him, and take pressure off of Chris Johnson. You could just as easily call this a rise for Locker and Johnson.

Chiefs passing game - No QB competition for Cassel, an unhappy Dwayne Bowe, and the WRs they drafted later look more like compliments than real difference makers or replacements for him. With a couple tackles taken early, you could also call this an upgrade for Jamaal Charles.

Unsure

Nicks/Cruz - I know, I know, the Giants have supported 3 FF-relevant WRs before, and they still don't have a TE that's going to eat up much yardage or TDs, but I still don't feel great about what this means for Nicks or Cruz, who some had already suspected could be a one-year-wonder.

Thoughts? Additions? Subtractions?

I read two of these differently.

Kevin Smith is still the no.3 RB in Detroit. I think the biggest bump goes to Best, then Leshoure/Smith

As far as Green Bay goes, I think Alex Green is the guy that will compete for Starks role last year. They also like what Saine brings to the table. Starks starting job is in more peril than it was at this time last year.

Agree with all of this. Kevin Smith was a feel-good story that's likely to repeat with Best and LeShoure back. Granted, either/both could get hurt and Smith could be called on again, but that's somewhat unlikely.

I like Saine's skill-set and think he'll make a nice push for a ton of looks in that Packer offense.
