skhyatt
I joined the site late last year, so I didn't get a chance to use the draft kit. When is the kit released for the upcoming season? We've got some drafts starting soon!
DMD
now that the NFL draft has been conducted, we are starting the process of writing up, projecting and ranking all players and that usually ends around the first of June.

Brentastic
The Huddle would be wise to start adding dynasty content.
DMD
Like what? We have extensive stuff on rookies already and a current ranking of all rookies. We have rankings for dynasty leagues in the summer. Anything that is about a player has dynasty implications. You want more articles how to build a dynasty team? Not sure what you are looking for. Brentastic
Well many dynasty drafts, whether it's a rookie draft or the inaugural veteran draft, begin as early as April (and some even earlier). I would think player rankings of both veterans (any NFL player who is not in the current draft class) and rookies would be useful. Getting some of the regular season content out earlier (pre-NFL draft) makes sense for those who are holding veteran drafts in the spring. EOS is a tool I like to use to help me with players I'm indifferent about and as I am currently participating in a veteran dynasty draft, I do not have that tool at my disposal. Full player rankings (current NFL, not rookies) with age and contract situation would be nice too. While ranking rookies is nice, many owners want the current pool of NFL players ranked as well. Not only for inaugural drafts but even to use as a gauge for trading etc... Just a thought. And I'm also available for hire if you want the best man on this job
DMD
I'll never understand why anyone would draft players this early when there is so much information not yet known and luck becomes a much bigger factor. Until you know the schedule (comes out immediately before the draft), and where free agents and rookies are going to be there is no way of doing any accurate predictions and projections. Doing it even in the best of intentions and best guess possible could be really wrong until you know the schedule and where the players are all going to be. And once you know that, it takes us about a month of working every single day, pretty much all day to do the needed research and analysis to produce all the projections and writeups that turn into rankings. I'd rather come out with something as accurate and thorough as I can make it than produce a rankings of names that couldn't possibly have enough thought behind it. EOS is going to be released in a couple of weeks I think. Maybe a little sooner. http://www.thehuddle.com/2012/articles/dmd-fantasy-ease-of-schedule-quarterbacks.php. But it has not been proofed and doublechecked yet.
Brentastic
I hear what you're saying, DMD but it doesn't change the fact that more dynasty leagues are drafting earlier in the year. You can still compile lists early and tweak them as new information becomes available. I don't agree that it adds more luck, I'd argue that drafting early rewards the owners who put in the time all year round (like me). I would guess many people who draft in the late summer are relying on information from other sources rather than doing their own research in combination with outside sources. Plus those of us in multiple dynasty leagues have an addiction and can't wait until late in the summer to draft. Late summer is for re-drafts. Late spring/early summer is for diehard crackhead fantasy nerds such as myself, LordOpie, WashingtonD & electricrelish to name just a few.

stevegrab
Tough situation for the folks at The Huddle for sure. I know that some other sites I follow already have player rankings available, but they are also less reliable and helpful. I respect DMD for not wanting to throw out half ass analysis just so people have something in April before the draft, end of FA, or schedules. electricrelish
It is an awful lot of work to do, just to have to do it all over again after the NFL draft, which changes everything. There are year round dynasty and keeper leagues. I know that in the off-season before 2010, I traded Mike Sims-Walker, who had just finished his best season, for Hakeem Nicks because of analysis on how good Nicks had been in his rookie season playing with injuries. This type of analysis is helpful to get ahead of the curve, but again free agency and the NFL draft can turn everything upside down.
skhyatt
I realize that - trust me. That is why I hate publishing anything that is not thought out and researched. It is a tough choice to make in every case. In a perfect world, we would get the projections, etc earlier rather than later, very similar to the regular season, where I would love to get the IDP rankings earlier rather than later. But if I'm going to pay for a service, then I want the best information available, so I am glad that the information is "thought out and researched", rather than just thrown out there just to have rankings that may not be the most accurate. I do understand those that want the info earlier. I have a draft coming up the middle of this month and would love to have the rankings available. But I'll just have to use another site, (who knows how accurate they'll be), or just my plain ole self knowledge or just pick a name out of a hat. What else can we do??? But I do understand and agree with "The Huddle's" policy.
detlef
Another vote in favor of waiting and getting it right. As long as I've been playing FF, which was before the proliferation of interweb FF sites, you never took anything the first mag on the rack said seriously. It was Athlon and it was a joke. I don't know why you feel compelled to have your Dynasty draft in May, but that's not DMD's problem. Just like a re-draft, you can have your dynasty draft right before the season starts. There's nothing different about them in that capacity. And, if your reason for having it early is to make it more challenging and separate the men from the boys, then what do you need the draft kit for anyway? Make your own. Isn't that why you're doing it early, so people can't just rely on some published cheat sheet?

irish
I also think DMD is correct in doing the due diligence when it comes to being researched before providing material. However, I guess he could, "for fun", throw out an early rankings list based on his gut feelings and preliminary research. That would calm all the nerves for the hungry fantasy owners, provide them with something from the trusted site they could use and would also be fun to look back on once the "real" info comes out in June and then again when the season was over.
