Bronco Billy
On a serious note, why in the Seven Hells does DEN trade a CB with nickel and return skills for a FB who can't pass block or catch? After a promising first year, Elway's decisions keep getting shakier and shakier. And no Xanders around to blame this one on.

delusions of grandeur
Fixed. At least they didn't spend a 5th round pick on him. Are you referring to the Falcons this year? Well, by the fifth round, you're looking at total lottery tickets at the other positions and value in a top one who can catch too, so instead this allowed them to get rid of Mughelli's overpaid $3 million salary, without taking a big downgrade like they did last year when he went down. We get it. You think FB is the least valuable position by far, and you're right, they're also compensated very little, but that doesn't mean that having a competent fullback on a team that likes to run doesn't matter. It definitely did last year when Mughelli went down and the O-line wasn't good enough to pick up his slack. It also mattered when all the other teams knew the Falcons were going to run it down their throat back in 2009-10, and they still had no problem pounding them. I'll disagree with your assertion about the fifth round being a "lottery." Mid-rounds picks are important. In any event, your team reached for a fullback. Only 2 or 3 were drafted and the Falcons spent a mid-round pick on him. I'm not quite sure how you can be happy about that
Bronco Billy
First off, 5th rounds picks in the NFL draft are not lottery tickets. Secondly Manning doesn't use FBs much at all, and 3rd if DEN does use a FB one of his strong suits had damned well better be pass protection. Why in the hell didn't DEN get a DT for Vaughn? NE is overloaded ther and DEN needs the help.

I'm not quite sure how you can be happy about that Yes, mid-round picks are important, but so was finding an adequate and much cheaper replacement for Mughelli, who's been very important to the Falcon's success in the running game. Not to mention this kid is supposed to be a great athlete and pass-catcher, so you're probably getting more than just a lead blocker... And no, I don't think anyone is going to think it's a sexy pick, but it's still them taking their top guy at a position of need (all the way in the 5th round, that's already pretty devalued by that point). You don't think that a player who plays less than 50% of the snaps should be a pro-bowler, that's fine. You think that the 5th is too early for it, fine too... But fullbacks must have done something horrible to you for you to have such an aversion to a position that the NFL still sees some value in having a good one. delusions of grandeur
First off, 5th rounds picks in the NFL draft are not lottery tickets. Good lord, okay that was an overstatement, but later-rounders sure don't have a track record of being more than just a few steals, with a whole bunch who don't pan out, is all I meant. So instead they opted for a more highly rated guy at a less valued position, rather than the other way around. No it's not a pick I'm excited about, but it gets $3 million off the books with a guy who they feel can fit just as well into what they do. I'm certainly not going to cry about them taking a fullback in the 5th, since they had good reason and a need to fill.
Bronco Billy
I'm not knocking the Ewing pick. Not sure why you're justifying it to me. The kid will start, knocks d players out of their cleats, and catches pretty well. Given ATL's O, he was a very good pick there IMO. Rodgers will have a field day tucking himself into Ewing's back pocket. ATL Badgers, baby!

Just clarifying about the lottery ticket remark to you. But yes, the Badger I'm obviously pumped up about is Konz... I watched the replay of the Wisconsin/Oregon game to watch him, and kept rewinding because every single play was like what you see on his youtube highlights. Not only was he the one guy who could hold his ground on every play, but he really impressed me how good he is on the move too. Not sure what the need is for this Gronk in Denver, but I agree, both of these 2 guys will help the Falcons get back to a more balanced run-first mentality. Bronco Billy
Konz fell way too far in the draft. He'll start in the NFL for a decade or more and I bet he earns multiple pro bowls
