Because he's a physical specimen and the Giants were thrilled to get him in the 4th round.  I mean, he's definitely no guarantee which is why I said I wouldn't draft him in  re-draft.  But in a dynasty where stud TEs outscore elite WRs, he's worth taking a flyer on over the 30th best WR left in a rookie draft.  I also like that he's being coached by TE guru, Mike Pope.

"Jerry Reese was downright giddy about landing Robinson in the fourth round, dubbing the guy the “JPP of tight ends.” The Giants believe they have a raw and athletic gem ready to be developed by tight ends guru Mike Pope."

Here's a good article on his prospects.  Keep in mind that Antonio Gates was an undrafted F.A.  There's upside with this guy and for me in my dynasty leagues, there was nobody else that looked attractive enough.

I also took him in my dynasty league where I can throw him on DTS for a couple years to see if he develops.

IMO, as of now I'm just not seeing anything of fantasy relevance this year from the NYG TE spot - it'll either be because of a complete lack of looks to the TE spot or spread too thin across the few options they do have.

Now, if Bennett sheds some weight before camp and can turn on beast mode, then there is the possibility that he could put up middling TE2 numbers IMO,  Ijust think that is a long shot an not something I'd want to count on if drafting now.

(Rotoworld) Giants TE Martellus Bennett insists his recent weight gain was by design in an effort to bulk up, and that his "pants size has gone down."

Analysis: By "recent weight gain," we are referring to Bennett ballooning from 265 to 291 pounds. Nevertheless, Bennett conducted an interview shirtless to show off his "6 1/2 pack" abs, and claimed he was "one of the top five strongest guys on this team right now." No word yet on what kind of unicorns Bennett has been working out with this offseason. Giants TEs coach Mike Pope is on the record as saying that Bennett is "probably a little too big for his legs to carry," though coach Tom Coughlin emphasized Monday he's not overly concerned with the weight gain.

Was surprised to see they waived Ballard yesterday, but they had little choice.  He won't play this season and they didn't want to waste a roster spot.  But they are hoping he clears waivers, then they can bring him back and stash him on the PUP list.

Close.  It would be to IR, but they can't do that in the off season without clearing waivers.

GD it.  NE claims Ballard off waivers when he's looking at missing this season for rehab?  Seriously?  So much for rostering him on IR in hopes of 2013 production.

Well they do need TE help.

Typical bastard Belichick, I know this is just to stick it to the Giants.

And they'll pay him half a million to ride the couch for this season.  Lot of dough, but not in today's NFL.

I can see how maybe Ballard is a Belicheat type of player -- undrafted, busted his ass to make the team, but still this doesn't make much sense to me other than just to burn the Giants.

I don't think that's true.  I think they were trying to waive him so they could re-write his deal.  Players have injury protection for the year after they are hurt so he'd get paid that as a benefit and they could re-do his deal for maybe cap or $ purposes.  Would be interesting to see details.

Bear Pascoe is the #1 TE as of this moment.  Today Eli threw a pass and Pascoe caught it cleanly, without tearing any ligaments or getting arrested for DUI.  He is the favorite to start opening night vs. the girls.

Titans | OC says Craig Stevens valuable member of team
Wed, 27 Jun 2012 10:31:07 -0700
Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer said TE Craig Stevens is a valuable member of the team because blocking tight ends are hard to find in the NFL. "He's very valuable. He's a good player," Palmer said. "I know this. Everyone is looking for a blocking tight end. In fact, there are some teams in this league that will even pick up tight ends that are hurt." Stevens has been working with the other tight ends this offseason on their blocking.
