I agree with DMD, he's a kid making a mistake. Lord knows I've made mine. At least he's making them early.

Not sure how it costs him money since he'll be slotted in the rookie wage scale. Not sure how it costs him time on the field since it's obviously his first offense in the NFL and he'll most probably get a fine and community service from the criminal aspect.
Apparently the experts that the huddle disagree with you (from player news)
Huddle Up: He blew a .26, which is startling and disturbing. For the average person a blood alcohol of .30 can possibly result in a coma. First off, the district attorney is not offering a plea bargain. Second, the Jaguars are expected to go after part of Blackmon's signing bonus. Third, this is Blackmon's second DUI in less than two years and now Roger Goodell will almost certainly suspend him for a couple games. This kid really screwed up.

Police say Justin Blackmon blew a 0.26 on his second breathalyzer test, after blowing 0.24 on the first.
It's "an indication he was drinking right before he started driving and his body was still processing the alcohol." Blackmon pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor aggravated DUI, but the Payne County D.A. says he'll take the case to trial if Blackmon doesn't eventually admit guilt. At the very least, the NFL will place Blackmon in its substance abuse program and test his randomly.
He probably just had a drink between tests to calm his nerves.

I think I remember a guy named Randy Moss came into the league with a bit of baggage, and I am pretty sure he turned out OK especially for dynasty leaguers( just ask Henry Muto). So lets let the season start before we send the kid to the scrap heap.

"I just think I made a poor choice," he said. "I put myself in a bad situation. It’s completely my fault, and I just gotta make better judgment on that. I’m going to seek whatever I need to seek to build from there.”
So you plead not guilty, but then you apologize for it? I dont get it.

The first post in the thread mentioned his first DUI during college so I assumed everybody had seen that.
As far as the NFL suspending him, maybe not under those guidelines but what about the "general conduct guidelines of making the NFL look bad" (its worded differently but forget what it says). If I were him I wouldn't be counting on the CBA to protect me from Goodell's rath. Besides I thought the offenders program was for illegal drugs, pot, coke etc. Are you implying that he'll be randomly tested for alcohol and punished if found to have been drinking?
peep,
I believe they call that a lame attempt to save face. Its your basic "I'm sorry for disappointing you" statement that celebrities make so their fans won't turn on them.

Blackmon's case will only be reviewed under the NFL's personal conduct policy if he pleads guilty or is convicted. For now, he's only subject to the substance abuse program. "Very unlikely -- suspension -- because there's no extenuating circumstances in this instance," Mort said. "They could fine him half a game check, up to $50,000 maximum, but they can tack on a little more on that fine because they can take into consideration that prior DUI in college. ... Unlikely, I'd say, to be suspended, unless extenuating circumstances are found." Jun 6 - 4:38 PM
