I was already steering clear.  The kid can't even spell Blackman.

He probably lacked the money to call a cab.  He's at that ackward stage where the Jags aren't paying him yet and Oklahoma State has stopped paying him.

One of the reasons I wasn't excited about him was his lack of muscle definition when watching him at the combine.  I noticed he was pretty flabby for an elite athlete.  Now I know why.  I won't draft this guy with your draft pick.

I'm thinking the Jags don't even miss him while he's suspended...not sure that Gabbert knows what a WR even looks like

I still think he's going to be a star.  And that this is overblown.  And that y'all are overreacting.  And I still wish I had been able to draft him in my Dynasty leagues.

I agree with DMD, he's a kid making a mistake.  Lord knows I've made mine.  At least he's making them early.

I won't be drafting him. Too much baggage.

Unti, like Maurice Clarett, he tries to get his goose on during practice by filling his water bottle with vodka I'll take a chance on him, maybe.

One of Blackmon's strengths going into the draft was his character.  So he made a damned dumb mistake but it's not like this is the latest on a long list of them.

Not sure how it costs him money since he'll be slotted in the rookie wage scale.  Not sure how it costs him time on the field since it's obviously his first offense in the NFL and he'll most probably get a fine and community service from the criminal aspect.

Apparently the experts that the huddle disagree with you (from player news)
Huddle Up: He blew a .26, which is startling and disturbing. For the average person a blood alcohol of .30 can possibly result in a coma. First off, the district attorney is not offering a plea bargain. Second, the Jaguars are expected to go after part of Blackmon's signing bonus. Third, this is Blackmon's second DUI in less than two years and now Roger Goodell will almost certainly suspend him for a couple games. This kid really screwed up.

I call BS. You could have drafted him in FDSB but you opted to move the pick. ;)

Not true!  Kyle had the pick at 1.06 and picked Blackmon.  I had 1.07 and 1.08.  I eventually traded him my 1.07 after he'd already taken Blackmon.  Believe me, if Blackmon had been there at 1.07, I would have snapped him up.

I'd easily take a flyer on the kid (seems like it won't cost much more than that at this point)...especially in a keeper. Wouldn't expect much of anything until Gabbert either improves or they get a real QB though, regardless of his talent. I do hope that this news scares people off and makes him fall too far in my keeper league.

Police say Justin Blackmon blew a 0.26 on his second breathalyzer test, after blowing 0.24 on the first.

It's "an indication he was drinking right before he started driving and his body was still processing the alcohol." Blackmon pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor aggravated DUI, but the Payne County D.A. says he'll take the case to trial if Blackmon doesn't eventually admit guilt. At the very least, the NFL will place Blackmon in its substance abuse program and test his randomly.

He probably just had a drink between tests to calm his nerves.

I think I remember a guy named Randy Moss came into the league with a bit of baggage, and I am pretty sure he turned out OK especially for dynasty leaguers( just ask Henry Muto). So lets let the season start before we send the kid to the scrap heap.

I stand corrected! I actually was considering him at 1.5, but opted not to. Not kicking myself for that one... yet.

First, I find it impressive that he could enhance his performance up from a .24 in such a short time.  Looks like he increases production in short order even as a rookie.  Second, the DA isn't offering a plea deal because he has not admitted responsibility.  I expect that will change unless there is an evidence issue.  Third - I hadn't realized this was DUI #2.  That could get him some short time in the gray bar hotel, presumably during the offseason.  4th, I believe this is his initial offense under NFL jurisdiction, which I believe by the CBA means he is subject to being entered into the offenders program and random testing but by contract is not subject to suspension.

So how does he plead not guilty, and then go on to make these statements:

"I just think I made a poor choice," he said. "I put myself in a bad situation. It’s completely my fault, and I just gotta make better judgment on that. I’m going to seek whatever I need to seek to build from there.”

So you plead not guilty, but then you apologize for it? I dont get it.

BB,

The first post in the thread mentioned his first DUI during college so I assumed everybody had seen that.

As far as the NFL suspending him, maybe not under those guidelines but what about the "general conduct guidelines of making the NFL look bad" (its worded differently but forget what it says).  If I were him I wouldn't be counting on the CBA to protect me from Goodell's rath. Besides I thought the offenders program was for illegal drugs, pot, coke etc. Are you implying that he'll be randomly tested for alcohol and punished if found to have been drinking?

peep,
I believe they call that a lame attempt to save face. Its your basic "I'm sorry for disappointing you" statement that celebrities make so their fans won't turn on them.

Yes, alcohol is included in the substance abuse program.</p>

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on NFL Live Wednesday that Justin Blackmon is "very unlikely" to face a suspension from the league following his July 3 drunken-driving arrest.

Blackmon's case will only be reviewed under the NFL's personal conduct policy if he pleads guilty or is convicted. For now, he's only subject to the substance abuse program. "Very unlikely -- suspension -- because there's no extenuating circumstances in this instance," Mort said. "They could fine him half a game check, up to $50,000 maximum, but they can tack on a little more on that fine because they can take into consideration that prior DUI in college. ... Unlikely, I'd say, to be suspended, unless extenuating circumstances are found." Jun 6 - 4:38 PM
