Here's a shot i did last week of the Transit of Venus. I didn't have time to order a solar filter or find glass, so i waited till sunset so i could shoot right at it. I only had a warm polarizer filter which helped a bit--  left my darker ND graduated filter in my other bag, so the Moose was the darkest one handy.
Of course, i didn't have my tripod either, it's handheld which was tough for a longer exposure :bash:  Basically i was totally unprepared!

The final photo is a composite of two images; one for the sun/venus and the other to show Lake Michigan and our harbor pier.

Does anyone have any solar filters or used camera/telescope combos?  I'd love to see some shots of the sun, eclipses, solar flares, etc

Gear: Canon 7D
18-200mm ƒ5.6 lens
Moose's Warm (81A) + PL Cir filter

knowing that was handheld goes to show just how great a photographer that you are

by the way, how are you liking the 7D?  I still haven't really had the chance to shoot much with mine. :kicksrock:
