Aaron Rodgers nearing extension

It's being reported by a lot of the beat writers/inside guys for Green Bay. Reports are that it's nearly done and it's 5-96.

If this is the case, I'd assume that this has to hurt Drew Brees and his contract demands, because there is no way in hell he's worth more than the much younger Rodgers.

You are forgetting, perhaps, the incredible added value Drew Brees brings with his wilingness to lead unofficial team activities?

not to mention how much Brees seems to think he's worth already in Brady and uninjured Manning category. Salary cap be damned!

I do love Brees' game. I much prefer Rodgers' game.

If this comes to fruition without rancor Rodgers will reap benefits outside of his contract. I don't think contract squabbles ruin an athletes marketability, but they do, likely, have some negative impact on it.

Nice to see a premier QB who can see that he can manage to survive on $19+M a year and gets a deal done quickly, helping the team by assuring his presence long term, being on the field while the team is in its prime, and at the same time being relatively cap friendly; instead of a guy who claims to be team/teammate oriented but whose ego forces him to wring every last cent out of a team just to strut the largest salary in the league. Actions speak louder than words, Drew.

I thought I read today, maybe it was the Green Bay Gazette, that this was all wild speculation and that the Packers and Rodgers have not been talking about the contract at all.

Not the Green Bay Press-Gazette

but here

Another rumor posted by a blogger, based on a tweet from somebody who is probably (well maybe, well it sure seems like it is, ok maybe it isn't) LeRoy Butler.

Also notice how nowhere do they say "sorry for perpetuating this rumor without trying to check with another reputable source". Its' Leap36 twitter guy's fault.

PS Love that blog name

That's pretty funny considering:

  1. You have no idea what's been offered to Brees or what he's asking, only what's been speculated in the media which both Brees & Loomis have both is incorrect.

  2. You have no idea what is being offered to Rodgers, only what is being speculated in the media, none of which has actually been confirmed by either Rodgers or Green Bay.

  3. Rodgers hasn't even signed the contract yet.

When he actually signs the contract & it turns out to be what is being reported or less, then you can crow.

This, and Brees is absolutely worth Manning and Rogers money, IMO. To me, Brees is the closest thing to Manning out there. Winning in spite of a defense that borders on awful sometimes, in what might be the toughest division in football? And he has a ring during this period. Don't get me wrong, if I'm drafting for a real NFL team right now Rogers is my first pick without question, but Brees is one of maybe 3 other QB's I would put in the same class.

 do you have any evidence showing the assumed contract offer is incorrect? If not, then your whole whining diatribe defending Brees is at least as great an assumption as my info, and most likely greater. So post some evidence above your butt-love for Brees that states otherwise.

Why should I have to prove that SPECULATION is not fact? And has Rodgers signed his contract yet? No? Then why are you still talkinig?

BB, rajn is WAYYYYYYY homerish about his saints but he's dead right here. You insisting him prove speculation is false is like me asking you to prove you don't pick your nose and eat the result. It's impossible to prove a negative statement. And since you can't prove anything other than "this is what I heard from this high priced hooker that was at a party where Roger's cousin's best friend's daughter's dog walker was in attendance and they said.."

I'm just yanking raj'n chain and he knows it. He is a hard core homer, and I love that passion for a team. But it does blind one a bit in the face of bad news. Me? I'm on the other end and am very skeptical of information being farmed out, especially when it contradicts what actually has happened on the field. He's right about Rodgers and the contract extension, though. There isn't any hard evidence and in fact later information appears to make the initial report seem bogus.
