Recommendations for the settings in a 8 man IDP-league

Cliff notes:

This is the questions I want to ask you.

What number of starters at each position would you recommend (offensive and defensive) in a 8-man IDP-league?

What are your scoring settings in your IDP-league?

Hey all

Last year we decided to spice things up with an IDP-league to go along with our main 12-man main league.

None of us had ever played IDP before and in general we didn't know much about the defensive side of the ball, so we decided the frst year should be a trial-and-error year with no money or bragging rights on the line, because we would probably have to change the setting after the season.

Why we didn't think about asking for advice last year is a good question, and one I cannot answer, which is the reason why I am asking now.

As the title indicates we ended up being only 8 persons playing, and we in fact need to change things.

We start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (RB/WR),1 K, 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DB and 6 Bench spots, which was too few on each side of the ball.

What number of starters at each position would you recommend (both offensive and defensive) in a 8-man IDP-league?

I am thinking that we should at least start 4 DL, 4 LB and 4 DB. Otherwise IDPs would still be an afterthought in the draft like it was last season.

Add at least 2 flex of some sort, maybe a RB/WR and a QB/RB/WR/TE

And increase the bench to 9 or something like that. Last season there almost wasn't a IDP player on the bench expect for bye weeks, because there was so many good players on the waiver you pick up at any time.

What are your scoring settings in your IDP-league?

I won't list our scoring because it would make the post even longer, and I think it is long enough already, but we didn't tweek it very much from the standard settng on NFL.com.

I have only played one season in an IDP league and that was several years ago. My concern would be that many people find an eight man league too small for a standard league. When you add IDP you double the talent. Case in point, many if the IDP leagues around here are 32 teams deep. Sixteen should do though. Not sure about the starting lineups, but you might want to each carry two teams. You'd have to bar those teams from trading and do something with the schedule where they do not face each other, but that could work.

Here's a pretty good thread from last year that you might want to take a good look at. It includes some analysis and some pretty strong opinions (shocking, I know) from me, as well as very solid input from others. I bumped it to the top for ease of finding it.

Here are examples of 3 different leagues with differing IDP impact by scoring. I'm linking the scoring rules, but you can back out and go to the top performers listing to see how the IDP players compare to the O players in each league.

Low IDP impact - Ironman 2

Medium IDP impact - TOCOL

High IDP impact - ATAP
