DMC handcuff

Goodson.

Well, if Bronco Billy says so it must be true.

Several sites, including the huddle, have Taiwan Jones listed as the #2 RB in OAK.

Here's a story from yesterday: http://www.nationalf...son-taiwan.html

And some info:

Taiwan Jones is a speedy back who will compete with Mike Goodson to back up Darren McFadden. Jones has terrific speed and open-field running ability, but must show more toughness than he did as a rookie. He is a late-round flyer with some upside if he can land the No. 2 job in Oakland.

Or, you could just take Bronco Billy's word for it. :woot:

Jones is built like a WR and has been out 2 weeks nursing a bad hamstring.

But hey, I'd sure risk a roster spot on a flyer like Jones instead of a guy like Goodson who has a history of very good performance when given the chance - because hugh says so. After all, he did light up the NFL for 75 yds in the 16 carries he had in his 10 games last season.

Have to agree, and this coming from a dynasty owner of Taiwan Jones.

Jones may be the #2 because of the speed and moves he can make with the ball in his hands, but I don't think it necessarily makes him the handcuff, as much as likely the #2 no matter whether McFadden or Goodson is taking #1 duties.

Maybe it won't quite break down that way, but I'm not sure I'd expect either to be a truly great handcuff. The difference is Goodson may have a shot, but I don't think you can rely on Jones for more than part of a RBBC.

Though Jones might only need 10-15 touches to be a difference maker, but he's gonna have to show alot more before he even sniffs my depth spots.

I agree with this. If DMC goes down I would imagine a true RBBC with Goodson and Jones with neither being the workhorse.

Well, I could have just said Jones and posted nothing else. Oh, wait........

Oh, and btw, Goodson was in the Hospital last week with a neck injury after being carted off the field. It's just his neck, so that should give you nothing to worry about.

Interesting, the Huddle just posted this before my last post:

Oakland Raiders RB Mike Goodson (neck) has returned to practice Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Huddle Up: This is good news for anyone trying to handcuff Darren McFadden, who has averaged just 11.25 games played per season throughout his career. Goodson is the man to own in that backfield as Run DMC's backup.

Before his injury I would have said that Goodson would be the back up sooner than later, and reports out of Oakland seemed to confirm this. Now I don't know. If I were a McFadden owner I would probably still pick Goodson as the handcuff, and then hope McFadden stayed healthy or got injured late in the season, giving Goodson more time to win the backup job.

Goodson has more upside than Taiwan Jones IMO, and if everybody thinks Jones is the backup, then I can get Goodson very late.

I had Goodson for a few weeks back in 2010 when both Stewart and DeAngelo were hurt and he performed somewhat decent.

Yep, seems the Huddle agrees with Billy, and it makes sense. How often do we see a RB as #2 on the depth chart, but they are the "complimentary back" and do no take over #1 spot whenn #1 goes down.

  • 2 weeks later...

Turns out DMC's handcuff is Taiwan Jones after all and not Goodson.

I don't see myself with DMC this year. I know he is a homerun hitter when healthy, but it would have been better to have a Bush type backup that you knew would be a solid fill in. I hope DMC can stay healthy for his own sake. He's an exciting back to watch. Just think I'd rather spend a roster spot on an upside player than waste it on a handcuff that may not even pan out even if he is forced into a starting (split) roll.

I'd actually come to grips with taking him in the drafts that I thought he'd be there for me. Picking 6 in one, 8 in another, and 12 in a league where RBs are devalued by scoring and starting line-up reqs. He went 2, 7, and 5 respectively in those leagues.

Well, that's what I get. I have one low cost league with some college buddies that I kind of got talked into last minute. I had something come up last second and couldn't make the draft. First time I ever had to do autopick (after drafting from my phone failed) and it looks like I got me DMC at 2.2 on a 10 team non-PPR league. As soon as I typed the above comment I had a "oh chit" moment. Luckily most of these guys don't play much so I should be able to churn it into a decent team.
