Cowboyz1
I have been pondering how to include the punter into fantasy. After all we have all positions covered except for the Punter. Why leave him out. The only point of watching the play is to see the return. So I'm thinking punting would go something like this. Punt's 1 point per 25 yards. 2 points for pinning teams inside the 5 Any other ideas on points. Also how would this be tracked. I don't know if there is a stat for punts inside the whatever yard line. Maybe average yardage over the game? or bonus points for punts over say 65 yards.Punters like Lechler or punters on teams that suck may be worth more? Is there any interest at all in including the punter. Just curious
Big John
There are punters in a couple of my leagues.: .02pt/yd and a bonus for inside the 20, plus and offensive/defensive stats anyone else gets (passing, tackles, etc)

Papajohn
I would say that we don't. It just adds another random element.
DMD
I would say just say no. And it is very random and rewards offensive futility.
Grits and Shins
I once played in a league that had punter scoring ... I didn't particularly for it. Way too random - especially since field position often plays a part in how a punter punts the ball.
Zooty
Yeah, I'm not so sure it adds much The top punter last year averaged 8.04 points per week while the #20 punter was 6.21. http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2012/top?L=57979&SEARCHTYPE=BASIC&COUNT=30&YEAR=2011&START_WEEK=1&END_WEEK=17&CATEGORY=overall&POSITION=PN&DISPLAY=points&TEAM=*&SORT=AVG

Makes it seem irrelevant if the scoring is that level. It would however maybe add another element of tie breakers so games don't end in a tie. I always thought ties would be so rare and practically impossible in a decimal point league, but every year there are a few ties in the leagues I'm in. I just can't believe it when it happens because it seems so miraculous that a different set of 8 or 9 players can randomly add up to the same score exactly. Crazy......... Furd
Best way to do it is to drink a shot at every punt. While you're at it, drink two shots every time that the announcers refer to the game between two inept offenses as a "defensive battle." rattsass
You could require each owner to name his team after a punter. I would strongly advise against any other inclusion.

Ditkaless Wonders
One of my leagues has had a punter position for more than a dozen years now. The better punters are generally from the worse offenses, though some have a higher rate of pinning teams back which also gets points. To me it makes no less sense than having Kickers. It is also a roster spot that you can maybe go without if you want to hold another player and are out of room, that is if your league does not demand all roster spots be filled. bushwacked
I play in a league that awards punter points and it's gheyer than Richard Simmons.
dope man
....I hate that I already have to pick a kicker, having to pick a punter might just push me over the edge...
muck
I like it. Week-to-week results are less variable the many WRs...

Kickers score points, and in general fantasy football started with players who were scoring points (on offense) and kickers. IDP cam later. Personally I would hate it. But still better than having coaches, water boys, and trainers as part of fantasy football. Of course it would be cool on those occassional fake FG/punt/XP that results in a scoring play. detlef
I would think that, rather than giving them points per total yards, it would be a function of average per net. Like net yardage x.2 or something like that with bonus pts for inside the 20. I mean, if you really wanted to do it. At least then you wouldn't be rewarding guys for playing con crappy offenses. As far as coaches, I used to play in a league where you had a coach and just got points if his team won. The total was pretty low (5 pts), but then again, it was before yardage leagues so 50 pts was often good enough for a win. I always wanted to make it so you could only draft a coach from a team who had a losing record the year before to make it more interesting.
