SecondString
What to expect moving forward? KSmith is on a 1-year deal, right? Coming off of last year, they could've given him a two or three year deal fairly cheap, but didn't. He probably won't be there next year. Given this, and his durability issues, wouldn't Detroit brass love to have LeSmokie step up and win that job outright? And won't they likely give him every opportunity to do that? Just kind of looking at the situation and thinking out loud here. Looking at Mikel as a good stash, which could pay off sooner rather than later, if he can step up. Seems like they will probably give him every opportunity. Thoughts??
Egret
That's the plan. If Best becomes available after his PUP time, he'll get some carries as well. It's Leshoure's job to lose. Smith has done an admirable job, but he's not a long term solution for the Lions.
ABearWithFurniture
Someone will get thirsty sooner or later and take a drink from the water fountain...next thing you know they're looking at a torn patellar tendon or turf toe, and Detroit is spending another high draft pick on a new victim. stethant
Just to muddy the waters on KSmith further, Joquie Bell played quite a few snaps in the DET game last night as it was. KSmith was more effective, but as a Smith owner I think he hit his high water mark in week 1. I'm not sold on Leshoure at all, but Smith's value takes a hit for the next few games, at a minimum, regardless.
Furd
It's Leshoure's job to lose. I disagree. Its Leshoure's job to take. He'll be given the opportunity to do it. But he hasn't taken a snap in a real game, so I wouldn't anoint him as the Lions back of the future just yet, Moreover: 1) Smith will be in the mix unless/until he gets injured; and 2) Leshoure seems like a workhorse type back who will need a lot of carries to be effective, which he ain't going to get with the Lions throwing 40+ times a game. I would temper my expectations
