Steven Jackson going forward?

What to expect? Confusing news on whether it was the groin or him slamming the ball. He looked like he was running well before being benched.

Continue to start him or what? I just got him via trade and have no clue what to do with this guy

Check the practice report to see if he participates fully today. Officially, they are still saying groin "tweak." Nobody here is buying a word of that. After he was benched, he got no treatment, didn't stretch or ride the bike, and never sat down. He stood on the sidelines glaring.

Didn't Jackson confirm the groin injury, and say that is why he was sitting?

Hard to believe that a seasoned vet like him would get benched and then go along with a made up injury. If he's really in the dog house and going to be held out longer, I'd think he's pretty pissed about that.

I haven't seen the game or play, but understand he spiked the ball on what he thought was a TD but hadn't been called a TD. Was it really a TD spike, or a spike in anger/disgust at the refs (who I heard were botching every play of that series). The game is on NFL replay tonight and I'll probably watch it so I will see for myself then.

It wasn't a TD spike, he spiked the ball because he thought he got in. It was a frustrated spike and he should have known better. You were on the inch line and 4th down, his team would have had another shot but he threw a hissy fit.

Thanks for the clarification. Still seems strange that he'd be benched for that, then they say he has an injury and he agrees. If he isn't really injured will he remain in the dog house and Richrdson gets the start and bulk of carries?

SJax has generally been a team player and good guy in the league from what I've seen, so maybe he's just not rocking the boat.

I suppose we'll see what happens this week. Had a chance at Richardson on waivers but decided to for other options (and missed on Andre Brown but got Pitta to upgrade my TE).

Yes, he publicly said he was "hurt", but most believe he did so to protect Fisher, and they have buried the hatchet and Jackson will start this week. If he doesn't play, I would think that would be an indication that he was actually hurt, not "still in the doghouse."

Both Jackson and Fisher claim the spike was in celebration of a percieved TD, not out of frustration at the refs who blew the call. Everyone else on the planet who saw it knows that's complete BS. That's one of a few problems I have had with Fisher since he came here. He fairly routinely says stuff that we all know isn't true and expects us to just believe him, or at least be polite enough to not call him on it. I don't think he would last 2 minutes as a couch in a tough media market.

As I said, I'll have to see the play myself to make whether I believe SJax/Fish.

As far as coachs go, I'd trade you Shurmur in a minute for Fisher. I still think he is a very good coach. I'm not sure what some fans/media want.

Just seemed to be a lot drama surrounding this situation, much of it invented by media and fans because they don't believe what they're being told.

I should believe Bill Bellicheat and his "injury" report every week?

Personally, I think Fisher very well may have benched him, or maybe Jax was indeed hurt. Or... (door #3), he also wants to see his young guys play in a tight situation with live bullets. How's he ever going to know if these guys might or might not have what it takes to play in the league unless he gets them out there? Are the Rams vying for a playoff spot and SB crown this year? Highly extremely very doubtful (never say never). He's here to rebuild the Rams, not take the existing parts and play them over and over. We did that for the last three years. I think this is a harbinger of things to come. As (or if) the WR's show more ability in practice, I think we'll see the same from Quick & Givens, getting more reps. Richardson is/was probably the most ready of them to get on the field.

NO, because he's proven time after time that he plays around with those, even pushing the envelope on what is legal within NFL guidelines.

I don't live in the STL market or hear much about Fisher, but respect the guy generally and wouldn't think he is BSing people like that. Othes can believe what they want. I just think some fans want the NFL to be a soap opera, and look for conspiracy everywhere.

Jackson did NOT practice today and is listed as day-to-day. Interesting. He gets Wednesdays off sometimes, but not usually this early in the season. Would they go this far to cover up a lie? Maybe he did tweak something. I still think if it was a minor tweak, he would have been getting treatment and lobbying to get back in the game. I don't know what to think on this one. I'll update if I hear anything else locally.

so any value in stashing away Richardson? Only way he plays is if Jax gets injured right?

No, I think he'll start to see a fairly significant number of carries even if Jackson is back. He's the perfect change-of-pace guy. With the exception of the late fumble last week, I think Fisher trusts him.

Sorry for multiple posts, but I just found out that according to the team, he had an MRI today. So if it's a conspiracy, it goes all the way to the top, man! All the way to the TOP!!!

Watched the game last night, and in my eyes that spike by SJax was in anger, not in celebration of a TD. There was no single for a TD, although the replay seemed to clearly show he crossed the line with the ball before being down. Surprised it wasn't reviewed. On the NFL Replay coverage of the game they mixed in parts of the press conferences/interviews with Fisher and SJax. Both said he did not spike the ball in anger, but becaues he scored (or thought he scored) a TD.

How often do guys spike or celebrate before getting a clear TD signal?

Sounds like BS to me, and I can see why STLFan feels the same way about the reason for benching.

Richardson did look very good.

BTW at the end of the first half when they kicked the FG, did the refs miss something. On 2rd down they tried one more pass play, incomplete but there was a holding. I immediately thought, "isn't that a 10 second runoff for penalty if the team committing is out of time outs". They were (3rd TO just before that play) and there was only 7 seconds left in the half. So that would mean no FG try.

Just as I typed that I think I realized my mistake, does that rule stipulate that it only applies if the penalty stops the clock, which it would have already been stopped because of the incomplete? Or has that rule been removed? I remember when it was put in place to prevent teams from committing penalties late just to get an extra clock stoppage.

from the game center play-by-play at NFL.com

  1. Timeout #3 by STL at 00:11.
  2. 2-4-WAS 14 (:11) (Shotgun) 8-S.Bradford pass incomplete short middle to 11-B.Gibson. PENALTY on STL-72-W.Hunter, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at WAS 14 - No Play.
