Eighteen years old, 180 pounds, meritoriously promoted private first class, orders to the Infantry Training School in San Onofre, California and then to the Republic of South Vietnam. $500 in my pocket. The world on a string. My how the time has flown. But if someone had told me then that in 40 years I'd have a career I love (teaching), a wife who makes everyday an adventure, four kids and 5 grandkids (and another on the way) all healthy and living within two hours drive, a growing farm business, and good health myself...why, I'd have been blown away! Thank you Sgts. Franz, Limberg, and especially Sgt. Grush. I would not be the man I am today without you all.
