His yards per carry (at least in this one game) was way up over last year. I also heard that long before he blew out his knee last year, he was dealing with other injuries that contributed to his poor performance in 2011. Any chance he is finally healthy and going to return to high end RB2 or low end RB1 form? What do yo expect from Mendy moving forward? Insight and thoughts are appreciated. Menudo Posted October 8, 2012 Share Posted October 8, 2012 When hearing that Mendenhall was out, my first though was that it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Based on what I had seen from Redman & Dwyer, I figured the running game would perform at about the same level. After watching Mendenhall yesterday, song lyrics popped into my head "Don't know what you've got, til it's gone". Mendenhall looked incredible yesterday. When looking at the stats, keep in mind that he had a 25+ yard run called back by a penalty. Mendenhall brings the ability to put up big gains with his athleticism, which is something that Redman & Dwyer were lacking. I thought he looked fantastic yesterday. He was making great cuts, showing great agility and vision, and even moving the pile forward when nothing was there. It made a big difference in the Steelers offense. One negative, is that it was obvious that the Steelers were limiting his amount of playing time. He would be out of the game for long stretches of time, and this was during a close game when he was definitely needed. All in all, I think he has some value moving forward. They used him in the passing game, and he has the ability to break some big plays. There may be frustrating games along the way (especially early), as they ease him back into the full-time role. I took him extremely late in both of my drafts, and he is saving me in one of my leagues, where RB2 has been my weakest spot, as I've been starting Donald Brown there. If Mendenhall continues to put up solid numbers, he could be the piece that makes me a serious contender. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
hapicamp Posted October 8, 2012 Share Posted October 8, 2012 When he ran between the tackles, he hit the small holes with power, shoulders forward and legs driving, gaining nice extra yards in the arms of the LB's. On the outside, his cuts and mobility looked sharp, nice turns at the corner. He will, it appears, share allot with Redmen, Rainey etc. It looks like a mini-NE or Saint backfield scenario, Mendy will be lead with allot of spelled time to stay fresh. I would plug him in as #2 RB if your RB #2 is someone (weak) like Chris Johnson, as mine is. He's a no-brainer fifth skill position starter i think.
