BS Miscreant
At this point in the season, what caliber WRs and RBs would you be willing to give up or expect in return for a top TE? Straight up, in a vacuum.
Thews40
Depends on the scoring and lineup options. Vernon Davis has been very good so far, prolly around 50th overall. Jimmy Graham is in a boot, but when you draft a TE that high you'll wait. Witten is the one you could probably swing a deal for, but Graham, Gonzo, Gronk and Davis are going to be too pricey IMO. I think Witten is going to have a lot of upside going forward.
Djgb13
Agreed. Everyone in my league wont take anything but a first round pick for their top te.
BS Miscreant
Ok, so you've got to give up top flight talent to get a big boy at TE. Who are you asking for and what might you actually accept if you own one of these top TEs?
Djgb13
Unfortunately I don't own one. But everyone in my league are asking no less than a top rb or Wr. Such as ray rice, foster, MJD, lynch, r white, Julio, ect
BS Miscreant
I'd take less than a 1st rounder but how much less is what I'm trying to get a feel for here.
LvilleSlugger
I have Gonzo and although I only drafted him ~9th round, he has been a huge part of my team therefore it would take a lot to trade him away, especially since there is a significant drop to my backup. To me, he's worth a strong RB/WR2, maybe low-end 1. If you're wanting names, I'd say someone like Bradshaw, Fred Jax, McGahee, Stevie Johnson, VJax, Austin, etc But if you're trading with someone who has a strong backup TE they might be willing to take a somewhat lesser player. I don't have Gonzo, but if I did I wouldn't take any of the players listed. The TE slot is the hardest to upgrade IMO, simply because there aren't a lot of them. You'd have to pair it with a two-for-two and give up something else to swing that deal.
kcmast
2 weeks ago I offered Ridley and Owen Daniels for Graham. I was turned down.
The Angry Pirate
I have to agree that once you find your team lucky enough to have a "Top TE" on its roster, it's hard to trade away that weekly consistency for just a small upgrade at another position unless you really need to. For me, it would take a lot to trade Gonzo, definitely an RB1 or WR1 if you're trading straight-up. If not, I agree with Thews40 that your best approach for getting a trade done which involves a Top TE is to 'pair it with a two-for-two and give up something else to swing that deal". Thankfully I drafted Gonzo and Witten back-to-back in the 7th and 8th rounds hoping at least one would work-out.....
