Joebirds55
What are people's thoughts on having their fantasy defense up against one of their position players? Does it impact your lineup decision at all? Doesn't make a difference?
stevegrab
No impact. Also don't care if I start a fantasy player facing my favorite team, or get into the "I'm starting my WR because he has the QB so I'll cancel some out." As a wise man once said, you start the players that you think will score the most points.
delusions of grandeur
As a wise man once said, you start the players that you think will score the most points. This. The only time you even consider your opponent's lineup is if you're deciding between a swing-for the fences play versus a safe play. Otherwise, you cannot consider your opponents players (or even whether you have players at other positions from the same team). Look at it like this. It's not my defense versus your QB. It's your defense vs. my defense vs. my other options at the position. So it doesn't matter if it doubles up points against the QB with an INT or if his TD's hurt your defense even worst. Though those can still be considerations in your predictions, at the end of the day, you have to decide which defense will score best. You cannot control what the other team's players do, you can only control who you play. It's this defense or that defense.

Big John
Actually, to quote the phrase correctly: "Start the players that score the most points" and end it with - Henry Muto That is attributable to Grits.

tazinib1
Wait a minute. You're saying that Grits and Shins is actually Henry Muto? I don't believe that for a second.

No, that is not what I meant. I thought the > is understood as GREATER THAN, and many of them means many times more.

Mind you, given that I'm a fan of the Niners, it's not particularly wise to start many offensive players against them this year, but I'm certainly not going to bench Forte next week. However, starting a D against your team is basically rooting for them to get shut down, and I hate that. Bad karma and all that. Positional players, if figure someone is likely going to score or put up some yards, may as well hope it's my guy.
Geo33
With rbs I feel like its not too had. Your rb can get 100 yards and a score and your d can still put up decent points. It's a toss up and it sucks, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Maybe its easier for me since I know my favorite will pretty much suck regardless of the fantasy impact.
detlef
So what would you do if you had the bears D? Maybe its easier for me since I know my favorite will pretty much suck regardless of the fantasy impact. That's why I said "avoid". If I'm safely in the play-offs, am playing an opponent that I feel I've got way better players than, and/or can find a good match-up at D, then yes, I'll go another way. Because I just hate the situation. Hell, I was in a neck and neck game the other week and was facing Niner D on Monday and hated the fact that I basically had to root for AZ to score just once, because I needed my opponent to lose the shut-out bonus. Of course, that wasn't a huge deal since the Niners were crushing them and in no danger of losing at any point. However, if I really need the win to stay alive or something like that and I don't have a good alternative, then I'll play them. I just avoid it if I can.
