Dont Rookie Me........
Would you have kicked that field goal so late in the game to try for the on-sides then go for the long hail mary? It seems to me that I would rather have a hail mary from the 20 yard line then the 40. I was working and could not listen did the commentators even say what a stupid move. Plus now I need more points by the Jets D to win, but it just did not make sense to me.

Joebirds55
No they agreed with it. I guess the logic is that you don't have timeouts and the clock was around 40 seconds or so. They needed a field goal and a td anyway, so why not kick the fg first? Then w minimal time left you may be in Hail Mary range but not field goal range once you get the ball back (on the onside kick). But I agree I thought they were moving the ball pretty well there, I think the play before the field goal was a long completion, and they may have been able to score a td, get the onside, then take a play to move it into field goal range for the tie. On a side note, I think corky thatcher could've made a better onside kick than the one that gotkowski kicked

Grogansghost
Corky Thatcher was a kid who had downs syndrome in a TV show - think it was called "Life Goes On".

Whiskey Pimp
It was definitely the right call to make. If you get the onside kick you still have time for a few plays before the hail mary but if you go for the TD first then you keep eating up clock and leave one last chance but not in field goal range. I've seen this a few times this year where a team needs to score twice and they keep driving for the TD and kill pretty much all of their time trying to do so. I guess I am missing the reference. Or is it a joke?
