keggerz
Tonight Calvin Johnson of course broke Jerry Rice's single season receiving yards record and as it stands now he only needs 108 yards in week 17 to hit 2000 yards. I think there is going to be a new CJ2K in town! Another record that should fall this week is the record for receptions in a season by a TE. Currently held by Tony Gonzalez with 102 catches. Jason Witten has 97 catches. Adrian Peterson needs 294 yards to break Dickerson's single season rushing record of 2105. I have to check but I think there might be another record or two that could or has fallen (have to check on the games with 10+ catches and consecutive games with 100 yards receiving). keggerz
i think he broke them both tonight I think you are correct, I just got caught up in him breaking Rice's record so I missed it if they said it on the broadcast and haven't double checked it yet myself. tazinib1
Stafford is on pace to break the season record for pass attempts as well. I think he only needs 5 next week to pass Drew Bledsoe
DMD
And to think we shattered passing records last year and now we could have a new record for rushing and receiving yards. Amazing.

Don't know about the 10+ catches, but per Cold Hard Football Facts: Detroit wide receiver CALVIN JOHNSON had 10 catches for 121 yards in the Lions’ loss at Arizona. Johnson has recorded at least 100 receiving yards in seven consecutive games, tied with CHARLEY HENNIGAN (1961) and Pro Football Hall of Famer MICHAEL IRVIN (1995) for the longest streak in NFL history. Johnson, who has 1,667 receiving yards this season, is the first player in NFL history with at least 1,600 yards in consecutive seasons. Johnson is the first player since Pro Football Hall of Famer LANCE ALWORTH in 1965 with at least 1,600 receiving yards through his team’s first 14 games. tazinib1
Here's hoping Smith takes care of that one tonight while the Niners crush the Hawks! He's not expected to play after missing practice the entire week.
detlef
He's not expected to play after missing practice the entire week. Wrong Smith. You're thinking of Justin Smith. Aldon Smith is the one on the verge of breaking the record. Mind you, Justin does open things up quite nicely for Aldon...

stevegrab
Calvin on NFLN Game Day Morning show now, 8 consecutive 100+ yard games (another NFL record). He hasn't talked to Rice yet. Talking about possibly breaking 200 yards, Calvin is being humble saying they have a tough task ahead with the Bears coming this week. And now Irvin pleading with him to not break his 100+ yard game in a season record. Calvin tells Irvin "I told you I was coming for your records..." He's a class act, even Irvin agrees. Bears held him to 3-34 on Oct 22nd. So yeah, 2000 isn't close to a lock.

tazinib1
If the big 4 fall, I'd love to see Irvin,Rice,Dickerson and Strahan in a studio piece. Watching Irvin squirm as they focus on his fallen record would be priceless television. BTW: the "unofficial" record for sacks in a season is held by Deacon Jones with 26 sacks in 14 games in '67. He tacked on 24 sacks the next year for good measure. Why these are not official baffles me. Maybe someone with more knowledge could explain that one to me. Just as bad is tackles are not an official stat
stevegrab
Bears held him to 3-34 on Oct 22nd. So yeah, 2000 isn't close to a lock. They also showed his stats over last 10 Bears games, something like 48 rec, 750 yards in 10 games, so 75 yard per game average, not much more than he needs. Not saying it is automatic, but just like Peterson I'm looking at their recent numbers (last couple months) as a better indication of how these players finish than games earlier in the season, especially a single game,

His record for most hookers and blow consumed in a season still stands. So he's got that goin for him. Which is nice.
