Petition: Declare the Monday following the Super Bowl a National Holiday

I just wish they would start it like a normal Sunday game at 1 PM EST or at least 4 PM EST. Waiting until almost 7 PM EST kickoff means the East Coast won't finish until after 10 PM and maybe 11 PM.

Yep, its all about the money though. Having it later gets more viewers, pushed it into primetime. Also gives a lead in to the networks usual (often crappy) programming that they hope will boost ratings.

Saturday night people are out doing other things, the ratings would probably be down significantly. Yes, many of those 100+ million viewers are not real NFL fans and only watch "because its the SB". And some might skip it on a Saturday because they have other plans.

And I don't see any reason to have Monday off, any more than any other Monday (Monday's suck). But then I have no desire to get drunk on SB Sunday, I want to see and enjoy the game, not ask people what happened the next day.

Agreed, I mean the super bowl is always the first Sunday in February or there about. If it's that hard to go to work the next day, just take the day off, use a vacation or family day if you've got em There is ample time to plan ahead... I did sign the petition but it will never happen

I'm with you on this point ,, if you need to use the Super Bowl as an excuse to get drunk ,,,,, never mind I will just leave it at that because I'm sure I'm in the minority here about drinking and getting drunk

Not really the point as much as people taking it easy on a work night, maybe even needing to leave early or not showing up on a day when many have parties for the game. It just takes the fun out of getting together when the game doesn't start until 7:00 on a Sunday night on the east coast.

I heard some of the people rioting in Baltimore were really in favor of this. Its hard to go to work after all that hard work turning cars over and burning people's property. (Seriously don't know how much of that went on but did see reports on the news last night of a lot of celebrating and some reaching riot stage with cars being turned over.) I really wonder what will happen in Cleveland if/when we ever win a major sports title again.

Ok, there was at least some rioting...
