Hold off on Titus Young = sleeper

 Either way, the kid obviously needs help. Not sure if it's a laughing matter, but hey, to each his own.

You have a brain disorder, doctor gives you medication to treat it, you stop taking that medication. So he is making his own problems by not following the doctor's treatment. He's making tons of money, he can go to any specialist he wants (unlike us working stiffs and our limited plans).

Maybe not a laughing matter, but hardly a woe is me the poor disadvantaged athlete story.

He's had help, and ignores it for some reason.

Never said it was a "woe is me the poor disadvantaged athlete" situation. You have a habit of jumping to conclusions, putting words in folks' mouth and making some huge assumptions here.

How many people that really do need this kind of help seek it out? How many people that need this kind of help that are offered it willingly take it? People that need menta help typically need more than just medication and a pat on the back.

Maybe part of his mental illness is his inability to recognize that he has a serious problem.

The sad part of this, aside from a troubled young kid for all intents and purposes, is a terrific athlete whose talents will never be realized.

It must be nice to live in your world. Everything is either black or white with nothing in between.

darin3 & papajohn,

You're right, instead of making fun of him and laughing at him we should feel sorry for him because he's been given a great opportunity and pissed it away. From the few details we have it sounds like he needs help, has been offered and given help, and refuses to take it. If his family, friends, teammates, coaches, doctors, etc haven't been able to get him to change his behavior, why should I care about him. What chance do I have of impacting him?

So I'll stick to my original "he's a giant tool" view and let those who want to feel bad for him do their own thing.

I think I'm gonna stick to my original "you're a giant tool" and get on with my day. Yup.

It is pretty common in these forums for people to jump on things with "humorous" remarks no matter what the subject. I have been guilty of this. If you are on this board for a while it is pretty easy to get drawn in to that kind of behavior from time to time.

I don't know anything about Titus Young but my guess is he has a MAJOR psychiatric problem, like severe mania or a psychotic break.

Dude is sick and it's hard to keep your chivese together when your mind abandons you. His dad says he can't even recognize the guy. I understand the "pissing away his opportunity" sentiment but unless he's got some hugh substance abuse problem, he's unlikely to be in control of his situation.

Forced meds could really help him, if he can get to that point before something tragic happens.

I'm sorry...I am such a bad influence. Just way too charismatic for my own good I guess... :shades:

I agree 100 percent this is no laughing matter and the dude needs help - however, if he refuses to get help, then he needs to go away before someone innocent becomes the tragic victim of his break from reality

there's enough people in prison in this country.

And they were not put there for J walking. We can always make room for more... Ask Texas!

Sometimes the best help is to stop helping and let the person hit rock bottom.

Agreed. Looks like he's well on his way which may end up being the best thing.

Sometimes the only thing you can do with someone like him is to lock him up. He has proven to be a menace. It is not about him anymore. Its about the innocent people that aren't doing anything wrong and shouldn't have their lives damaged or destroyed by him. If there is anything to him or his family they will use the money he did make to admit him into a psych ward at their expense, otherwise he belongs in jail/prison.

The innocent are far more important than the guilty.

If you disagree with the above statement; you are part of the problem.

I think most anyone with more than three brain cells would agree with that...

.... oh, and it's "than".

I agree

All crazy people should be locked up where they can't hurt anyone. Wouldn't want to risk it.

Oh wait, our society tried that in the past....

I'm not in a mood to argue with people who comment without actually understanding the issue, so I will just end my involvement with this topic by saying that if you think giving someone like him medications and leaving him in society will work, you should take some time and actually look into it.

So you think everyone with mental issues should be locked up? Do yourself a favor and watch "One flew over the cuckoo's nest". Not only is it one of the greatest movies of all time, it might change your perspective a little.

I don't think anyone said everyone should be locked up - this guy however , is clearly a danger to society.
