HutOne
In the league I run our waiver wire pickups are determined by overall points with the lowest in points gets the first chance and so on. Some of the owners think it should go by weekly scores for pickups. I think the way I have it is the fairest way to do it. I was wondering how other leagues have their waiver wire pickups. I would think you should use whatever system you use to determine playoff teams: if total points, then use that for waivers; if won/loss record then points, use that. Definitely NOT weekly scores. Grogansghost
Blind bidding - or a rolling priority list that starts with the owner who drafted last as first are both fair. Creating a system to favor the weak teams is unfair IMO. The total points are pretty meaningless early in the season and that's when some of the biggest ww finds can occur. Cam Newton and Alfred Morris are two recent examples that could've changed a team's entire season based off a single bad week. Ignoring that total points isn't a great indicator team strength until the season has been going for a while, I disagree with the basic premise that the waiver wire should be set up to help even out the teams. Every team should have equal access to it. Just because someone may have drafted poorly is no reason for the league to try to help that team catch up later. I mean, during a marathon would you ever make the leaders carry a set of handweights after 10 miles? I've never understood why some see it as "fair" to give some owners an advantage in FF just because they're losing.

While it's not the most sportsmanlike thing to do, this is exactly why I have advocated throwing your Week 1 game in leagues where waivers are awarded worst-to-first, especially if you're playing a pretty strong team that you might not beat anyway. It seems there is ALWAYS a player to emerge in Week 1 as a waiver wire treasure--Morris and Newton being the last two years' examples. HutOne
Thanks for all the responses. It seems like blind bids are the way to go. How do you guys have your blind bidding set up ? I never used it before . Our league is in myfantasyleague so I need info on how to set it up. Thanks again.
Scorcher
If you go worst first every week, when it gets to crunch time it gets annoying when you are in the hunt and the team wallowing in the basement is getting all the choice picks with no chance to win where getting a good WW pick could make a huge difference for you. archiebonker
Our Blind Bid starts at Noon of Sunday and players are handed out on Wed. Then from Thur till game time on sunday again, it's first come first serve. Hope that helps, if you have any questions. Let me know.
HutOne
Thanks. Archie , How does the money thing work ? Do you have a set amount you can use for the year? If so , If you run out of bidding money before the season ends is that it for your pickups.
Axe Elf
Well yeah, duh. If you had unlimited money, you'd just bid a googleplex on each player, and no one could beat you. (Although, after a while, everyone would catch on and you'd all tie.)
HutOne
Axe I meant can you purchase more bidding money if you run out. A owner in my league asked if you would run out could you pay like $20 for $50 of bidding money. This is new to me I'm just trying to figure out how everything works. It's your league, you can do whatever you want. Our leagues have a $200 bank and minimum bid is $1. When you're out of your bank you can't make anymore pickups. Savage Beatings
If you blow your wad early in the season, and no longer have funds to bid on Free Agents, then you can't participate in the weekly Waiver run, but you can still pick up FCFS waiver players after the Blind Bid waivers have run. So you always have a chance to add/drop no matter what.

Axe Elf
Some money leagues do offer a rebuy, and then add those funds to the prize purse, but I think that kind of handicaps owners who don't want to add another $50 or whatever to the kitty. So yeah, in general, I'd say give 'em all $100 fictional dollars for the season, and when it's gone, it's gone.

HutOne
Thanks again everyone for your responses. We just had our pre draft league meeting and we adopted the Blind Bidding system for our waiver picks. We went with $150 in bidding funds and first come picks are free. The only bad thing that happened was I drew the 6 spot for our draft.
Axe Elf
Yeah, that is a sucky slot for sure. Too late to get Charles, too early to take Calvin.
