mattk53
I have a major crush on Colin Kaepernick (not faggy). If he's not there in the late 3rd or eqarly 4th I may jump off a bridge! I'm in a 10 man league and I expect him to be drafted QB-5 behind Brees, Rodgers, P Manning & Brady! Yeah, he's a bigger, faster, and stronger Than Randall Cunningham with a better arm! He's only going to get better and that's a Fact! Also he has one of the best coaches in the league and a great team. I plan on taking him WAY TOO early. AM I WRONG? WHY? Axe Elf
You're wrong. He will be there in the 8th in a 10 man league.
DMD
My only problem with Kaepernick from a fantasy perspective is that he rarely ever gets into a shootout thanks to that defense and they run as well as they throw. In most games, he doesn't have to post big stats to win. Losing Crabtree only makes it worse.
bostonsoxandy
Well put DMD. An ideal game for the 49ers overall really isn't an ideal game for Kaep's fantasy value. He would have to make the difference in the amt of throws he gets to the amt of throws a guy like Brady or Brees gets in his running value. With him running more than those guys he has a much higher injury risk. Meh.
Flypaste
Same size as Cunningham, give or take 10 lbs. Cunningham ran a 4.4 40. Kaepernick ran a 4.53. Â Cunningham had a cannon. Not sure how you would measure that. See 1990 vs Bills. Ducks Bruce Smith in the end zone. Fires 60 yards to Fred Barnett for a 95 yard TD Â Loved Cunningham but I am enjoying Kaepernick's play as well. irish
Agreed with DMD. The problem with Kaep is that the team just doesn't need him to do what Manning, Brady, Brees, Stafford Rodgers, etc do. Just looking at his stats over half a season last year, he never had more than 36 pass attempts in a game (some guys exceed 50 and are in the 40s quite often ) and he never once hit the 300 yard mark for passing yards (276 was his season high). Now he did pass for 302 yards against the Ravens in the SB but that's because they were playing catchup, which is rare. His value comes from rushing the ball as he had 63 rushing attempts 415 yards and 5 TDs. And looking at weeks 10 and on (8 games), he had 50 rushing attempts for 304 yards and 3 TDs, which is adding 6.05 pts per games to whatever passing stats he ends up with. Which averages out to about 6 rushing attempts per game for about 40 yards and a TD every couple of games. Â Kaep definitely comes with risk, however, if he continues to rush the ball as he has then he'll hold solid value but not top 5. Â He did not have a game below 18.5 pts last season and whenever it seemed that he had a down game passing, his rushing stats would boost his overall total. Â Week 10 - 117 yards passing 0 TDs but 8 rushes for 66 yards rushing and 1 TD. Week 13 - 208 yards passing 0 TDs but 9 rushes for 84 yards. Week 14 - 185 yards passing 0 TDs but 6 rushes for 53 yards and 1 TD.
Scorcher
Â In this scenario how do you guys feel about Russell Wilson?

DMD
In this scenario how do you guys feel about Russell Wilson? Â Pretty much the same as I do about Kaepernick. Russell had a lot of fantasy killer games including 8 with one or no passing scores and nine with fewer than 200 pass yards. He's not bad, he is just rarely pushed to do more.He ran a lot more at the end of last year so not sure how that plays into 2013 when all of his rush TDs and most of his yards were in the final 5 games. bostonsoxandy
Do you like Wilson or Kaep more DMD? Personally I think they are right next to each other but I would give a slight edge to Kaepernick. Not really feeling Wilson at his ADP right now when you can get Romo a round later or Eli two rounds after that.

stevegrab
Good analysis guys, I read the first post, looked at the poster (from NorCal, 49ers fan) and thought it sounded like a lot of extra homer love. Great QB for SF, and should do well for them for a long time. But not a great fantasy QB like Brees, Brady, Rodgers.
Seahawks21
I wouldn't let either one of them start for my fantasy team. They're both going to be near the bottom of the league in pass attempts.
Bier Meister
another consideration: if OP's league is based out of northern california, he may, indeed, go earlier than drafts in other parts of the country. if there is a qb run, i wouldn't be surprised if someone takes an early flier on him. chiroacademy
I wouldn't draft Kap till late. I have him as my 12th QB. I think he will be overdrafted and drafted long before I would consider him a value. I would absolutely take him if he slips but I don't think that will happen so he basically off my board.
